- Build and guide a team of highly skilled protection and control engineers with expertise in all areas of protection algorithms, filter design, and renewable integration.
- Inspire and foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Oversee the full project lifecycle for protection and control system, feature design, specification, simulation, modeling, implementation, ensuring alignment with organizational processes and procedures.
- Champion the adoption of new technologies, such as communication protocols (e.g., IEC 61850) for digital substation to enhance grid automation and protection.
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives to support the seamless integration protection algorithms into products using model-based design through to virtualization.
- Possess a deep technical understanding of protection algorithms, automation, and control system design, including fault analysis and system stability.
- Experience in Matlab / Simulink for model design and power system simulation tools such as RTDS. PSCAD or ATP/EMTP and applying protection principles to design and development of protection relay.
- Knowledge or experience of metering, Ethernet & serial communications applicable to P&C (such as IEC61850, Modbus, DNP3.0 and IEC60870-5-103).
- Working knowledge of RTDS and its application in hardware-in-the-loop testing of protection and control systems.
- Experience with Model-Based Design principles for developing embedded systems for protection relays.
- Demonstrate strong project management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Develop and manage the team's budget, resource planning, and performance metrics.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software developers, and product managers, to ensure seamless integration of protection and control functionalities within the overall equipment design.
- Stay abreast of industry standards and trends, technologies, and best practices in power system protection and control.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with universities to support research and development efforts.
- Represent the organization at industry conferences and technical forums.
- Experience working with utilities on protection and control system design and implementation.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field; master’s degree a plus.
- 10+ years of experience in power system protection and control engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and developing a team of engineers.
- Proven record of writing and presenting papers at industry conferences
- Experience with industry standards and regulations related to power system protection and control.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with both technical and non-technical audiences.
