- Engages with our work providers and Business Services Team members on a daily basis, working to build relationships and monitor work levels, whilst ensuring a healthy, positive work environment.
- Partners with work providers and managers to deliver People & Culture strategies that align with business goals and objectives, workforce planning, talent development, and organizational success.
- Applies knowledge and experience in interpreting People & Culture policies, procedures, benefits and payroll, and provides counsel to Firm members on the application of Firm policies/procedures in accordance with employment legislation.
- Builds insight into practice groups and Working Teams through partnership with the People & Culture team, using this knowledge to anticipate needs and recommend proactive strategies that advance workload balance, efficiency, time management, and overall practice management effectiveness.
- Proactively addresses employee relations issues by identifying challenges, recommending solutions, and providing coaching and counsel to key stakeholders, on performance management: including action plans, progressive discipline, and termination strategies.
- Works with stake holders on the firm’s Law Clerk program: mentorship, learning and development, delivering a positive client experience, practice management skills, billable target tracking, social programs.
- Implements engagement initiatives while supporting proactive career development, goal setting, succession planning and leadership training, to foster growth and team effectiveness.
- Takes part in People & Culture processes and projects within specified timelines and budgets, resulting in identifying best practices and operational process improvements.
- Supports the Talent Acquisition team and Firm members with recruitment initiatives to attract and retain high-quality talent through effective hiring strategies, that align with organizational goals to meet resourcing needs.
- Prepares, analyzes and runs reports to identify workforce trends and talent gaps, recommending and implementing strategies to improve productivity and drive business success.
- Supports the management of the full cycle of various employee programs such as onboarding and new employee orientation, employee relations, well-being initiatives, training, etc.
- Champions a culture of excellence by executing initiatives that support our shared values to raise the bar, thrive together and embrace differences.
- Participates on committees (i.e. Equity, Respect & Belonging Recognition, Health & Safety, etc.).
- Acts as a back-up to People & Culture colleagues.
- Other duties as assigned.
- College Diploma or University Degree in Human Resources Management.
- Five (5)+ years of HR advisory experience, ideally in a professional services environment.
- CHRL or CHRP designation (or working towards achieving designation) is preferred.
- Having a law clerk designation is an asset.
- Expertise and knowledge in Human Resources best practices, organizational development, policies, employee engagement and employment legislation.
- Demonstrates a proactive mindset and consistently approaches day-to-day responsibilities with initiative, anticipating needs and independently taking action.
- Solid track record of building relationships, gaining deep industry knowledge, dealing with matters and providing pro-active and responsive solutions to business needs.
- Experience working closely with internal clients on complex/sensitive issues and demonstrates discretion and ability to handle confidential and private information appropriately.
- Strong business acumen, communication and presentation skills and is comfortable facilitating groups, and coaching individuals.
- Strong appreciation for timelines and deadlines with an aptitude to take care of clients’ needs in a professional and courteous manner.
- Energetic and motivated to be a key member of the HR team, locally and across all offices.
- Fluency in English: additional languages (French) a strong asset.
- Strong technical skills, with proficiency with HRIS systems, MS Word, Outlook, Document Management Systems (ie. iManage), Excel, with the affinity to learn new applications and the ability to leverage technology and automation tools, to support daily tasks and productivity.
