Position Title: Web Development & Community Engagement AssistantPosition Overview:The Web Development & Community Engagement Assistant will support ANIDA by strengthening its digital presence and expanding its community outreach, with a primary focus on developing and maintaining a user-friendly food bank website and supporting engagement at local events.This role offers a unique blend of technical and community-based experience. The selected candidate will contribute to building and maintaining websites using WordPress and WooCommerce, while also playing an active role in promoting ANIDA's programs through community events, outreach initiatives, and public engagement.The candidate will support digital content management, assist in organizing outreach opportunities, and engage directly with community members to increase awareness, participation, and access to services. The role requires confidence and the ability to independently manage outreach booths when required, including transporting materials, setting up, and representing ANIDA in the community.This position is essential in helping ANIDA effectively communicate its mission, grow its network of volunteers and partners, and improve access to food security programs.Key Responsibilities:1. Website Development & Digital Content (40%)
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of ANIDA's food bank website using WordPress and WooCommerce
  • Upload, format, and organize content including text, images, and community resources
  • Build and customize web pages with clear navigation and user-friendly design
  • Ensure the website is accessible, mobile-friendly, and easy to navigate for diverse users
  • Test functionality, troubleshoot issues, and resolve errors (e.g., broken links, layout inconsistencies)
2. Digital Optimization & Systems Support (10%)
  • Update and improve content across existing organizational websites
  • Enhance layout, readability, and accessibility of key pages
  • Support ongoing improvements to user experience and site performance
  • Assist in organizing digital information and resources for internal use
3. Community Engagement & Event Outreach (40%)
  • Research, coordinate, and assist in booking outreach opportunities (festivals, churches, community events, etc.)
  • Transport, set up, and take down outreach booths and materials
  • Represent ANIDA at events by engaging with community members in a professional and welcoming manner
  • Share information about programs and services, helping increase awareness and access
  • Encourage sign-ups for email lists, volunteer opportunities, and our new subscription model
  • Gather feedback and insights from community interactions to inform outreach and digital improvements
4. Content Creation & Outreach Materials (10%)
  • Support the creation of basic digital and print materials using tools like Canva
  • Assist in drafting simple website content, event messaging, and promotional materials
  • Help prepare and organize materials for both online use and in-person outreach
Learning Outcomes:
  • Gain hands-on experience in WordPress and WooCommerce website development
  • Build skills in digital content management and user experience design
  • Develop knowledge in data management and nonprofit CRM systems
  • Strengthen communication and community engagement skills
  • Learn how digital tools support food security and community services
Requirements:
  • Basic knowledge and practical experience in website development (WordPress preferred)
  • Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills
  • Comfortable working with digital tools and learning new systems
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Comfortable balancing both independent website development tasks and in-person community outreach responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and manage multiple tasks
  • Must have a G2 licence and a vehicle to transport supplies to events
  • Eligible under Canada Summer Jobs guidelines: youth aged 15-30 who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons legally entitled to work in Canada
Position Details:Hours: 35 hours/week + 5 hours unpaid break
Wage: $18.60/hour
