Applicants are encouraged to self-identify on their electronic application.Reporting to the Manager Climate Governance & Collective Impact this position will lead the annual HalifACT reporting process including data collection, stakeholder relations and final report production. This position will also partner with Halifax Transit on informing the delivery of Greening Transit initiatives and leading the Greening Transit Working Group which supports the transition to a more sustainable, climate-informed, and resilient transit system.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Writes and prepares reports including the HalifACT Annual Report, presentations, and background material for Council or other public forums.
  • Undertakes research, data analysis, policy work, and reporting.
  • Initiates, implements, coordinates and administers environmental performance and related measurements and data for corporate environmental sustainability and climate change reporting and related efforts.
  • Builds positive public and private sector relationships and partnerships.
  • Liaises and communicates with environment-related stakeholders and groups, HRM Boards, Community Councils and Regional Council.
  • Provides technical and administrative support to corporate and community environment and climate change strategies, initiatives, policies and programs.
  • Coordinates and administers the activities of consultants, contractors and other partners.
  • Assists with the preparation of proposals, tender documents, reports, and price agreements for environmental services.
  • Oversee the annual reporting process including conducting analysis and data collection to report production and delivery.
  • Provide climate and environment lens and expertise to support the Climate Governance model and the Greening Transit portfolio.
  • Act as a liaison between Environment & Climate Change and Halifax Transit and lead the Greening Transit Working Group.
  • Support research, funding applications, policy and project work to ensure they align with climate priorities.
  • Provide expertise in climate change and systems change as it pertains to HalifACT initiatives and the Climate Governance portfolio.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
  • University Degree in Environmental Science or a related degree.
  • A minimum of four (4) years' experience in directly related environment and climate change work.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: climate governance and reporting, transit systems, sustainable transportation, climate mitigation and adaptation and change management. This can include research, policy analysis and development, projects, programs, outreach and education, and consultation.
Technical/Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of environmental Science, sustainability and environmental performance measures.
  • Knowledge of environment-related provincial and federal environmental regulations and acts.
  • Knowledge of municipal acts, by-laws, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of environmental and climate science, issues, policies and approaches.
  • Understanding of current and predicted future climate change risks at the local, provincial, national and international scales.
  • Awareness of current climate change efforts in HRM, NS, nationally and internationally.
  • Possesses excellent communication and engagement skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Financial and policy analysis skills are considered an asset.
  • Proficient with computers with strong working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, databases and environmental performance measuring and reporting.
