Closing Date: April 23, 2026Job SummaryThe OTA/PTA is an integral member of the Allied Health team, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care across clinical programs. As part of the Geriatrics, MSK, and Multisystem Rehabilitation teams, the OTA/PTA will provide support across both inpatient and outpatient programs on a casual basis.Duties
- Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist, supervises or assists with individual patient treatment programs
- Assists in or conducts group activity/exercise and education programs
- Assists client to practice with mobility aids and/or adaptive equipment
- Instructs and demonstrates the safe use of therapeutic equipment
- Assists in the implementation of new occupational therapy and/or physiotherapy programs and research projects
- Monitors and reports changes in health status to the supervising OT or PT
- Collaborates with members of the inter-professional team and provides cross-coverage for other OTA/PTA members, as needed
- Participates in professional, program, and hospital-wide initiatives (e.g. participates in rounds, meetings and program development)
- Prepares and maintains patient treatment areas to ensure a clean, organized, and safe environment.
- Assists with maintaining equipment and supplies inventory
- Maintains handouts/documents needed for assessment, treatment and education
- Demonstrates the ability to work across inpatient geriatrics, MSK, and complex multi-systems rehabilitation, with involvement in associated outpatient programs
- Must be flexible to cross cover units based on operational needs
- Successful completion of combined Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Assistant diploma from a recognized Community College
- Knowledge of equipment, e.g., wheelchair supplies and seating equipment, etc.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (C Level) Heart Saver Plus Canada
- Knowledge of the rehabilitation approach to patient care and the roles of Occupational and Physical Therapy
- Experience or willingness to cross-cover across programs, including:
- Geriatric and musculoskeletal (MSK) rehabilitation
- Multi-systems rehabilitation (e.g., complex medical, oncology, transplant, etc.)
- Specialized Dementia Unit
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated computer skills
- Works effectively within an inter-professional team
- Good attendance is essential
