- Support the design, execution, evaluation, and continual improvement of internal and external training programs, including safety, technical and apprenticeship education, prioritizing Power Line Technician apprenticeship program
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert supporting safety, technical and apprenticeship training program development, incorporating new tools, technologies, procedures, and upskilling requirements
- Ensure all training programs emphasize safe work practices and align with industry best practices, legislative standards, and organizational policies
- Develop, revise, and maintain training materials, curricula, and documentation to meet regulatory and organizational requirements
- Liaise with educational institutions and external agencies (e.g., IHSA, MEARIE, Skills Ontario, Ministry of Colleges and Universities, Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development) to validate training content and certifications
- Lead instructors and support staff in delivering the annual training plan across legislative, compliance, trades, and apprenticeship programs
- Monitor instructor and apprentice adherence to safety expectations, including performance management, coaching, mentoring, inspections, incident reviews, and corrective actions as needed
- Oversee the apprentice training experience, including task exposure assessments, training material updates, and field assignment tracking
- Monitor apprentice progress through collaboration with Operations Leaders, maintain individual Apprentice Dashboards, and provide performance input
- Identify and mitigate risks or issues that may impact successful apprenticeship completion, including supporting development plans when required
- Maintain ongoing communication with apprentices during operational placements to ensure required competencies and work exposures are achieved
- Act as Subject Matter Expert for apprentice training records, certifications, and compliance standards
- Participate in internal and external training audits and/or learning teams as required
- Identify training gaps and risks and provide follow-up support to ensure timely resolution
- Support improvement initiatives (project management, product trials, product implementation, etc.) related to work methods including: training systems, processes and tools
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new training programs or enhancements aligned with organizational strategy, safety, and HR objectives
- Research, benchmark, and apply best practices in training delivery to enhance efficiency, quality, and learner outcomes
- MEA Certified Journeyperson, College of Trades / Power Line Technician Red Seal Certification, Stations or an acceptable combination of technical education and relevant experience may be deemed equivalent
- Minimum five (5) years of instruction experience focused in the area of education, electrical distribution, construction and maintenance
- Minimum ten (10) years of experience in the electrical utility industry involved in electrical construction, maintenance, and operations, including extensive overhead and associated underground electrical construction and maintenance and related trade knowledge applied within an overall framework of Health and Safety
- Operates system vehicle having a Class “DZ” license requirement, able to obtain Class “AZ”
- Familiar with reading electrical drawings, feeder/operating prints, Electrical Utility Safety Rules, Utility Work Protection Code.
- Familiar with various computer systems/applications including safety performance tracking systems, incident investigation techniques, work management and general office automation tools
- Demonstrates familiarity with special work procedures /practices for hazardous work environments
