The Physician Assistant will work under the direct supervision of an immediately available attending General Surgeon within a multidisciplinary team in an academic in-patient setting. The Physician Assistant will play a major role in facilitating consistent application of clinical protocols and continuity of care, and will also identify patients with acute clinical issues common to general surgery patients and work within the multidisciplinary team to appropriately manage patient care. The Physician Assistant will provide a full range of physician assistant services in accordance with privileges granted, request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health care resources as indicated, order diagnostic tests as applicable, prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.Qualifications1. Graduate of Physician Assistant Program
2. Prior experience in general surgery or other surgical settings is an asset
3. Demonstrated ability to make decisions in times of emergencies
4. Demonstrated ability to work alongside surgeons, nurses and other Health Care Professionals
5. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills
6. Demonstrated ability to promote professional development
7. Demonstrated leadership and critical thinking skills
8. Demonstrated commitment to patient and family-centered care
9. Demonstrated ability for independent action, initiative, problem-solving, organization and prioritization
