Engineering Supervisor

- Estimate Engineering hours and generate project sub schedules that support the overall project schedule.
- Represent the design team in project meetings and report on project activities and progress.
- Prepare design concepts, should costs, lead design reviews and co-ordinate group evaluations of mule and prototype machines.
- Lead Design failure mode and effect analysis review (DFMEA).
- Participate in the development and execution of the Design Validation Plan (DVP).
- Approve all orders for prototype build activities for the team, ensuring they are issued in time to support all build timelines.
- Approve all Engineering design changes for the team ensuring that all designs meet applicable standards and specification requirements as well as manufacturing capabilities.
- Complete performance evaluation for direct reports and participate in career development discussion for team members.
- Prepare technical documentation for Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SRED) tax claims for applicable projects.
- Assist with onboarding/training of new design engineering employees.
- Perform root cause analysis and propose solutions for design issues encountered.
- Work with relevant stakeholders to ensure proposed design changes are acceptable prior to approval and implementation.
- Participate in departmental Continuous Improvement idea generation and implementation.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Experience working in a Design Engineering role within a fast-paced Manufacturing environment.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario (or eligible to be registered immediately).
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience as an Engineering Supervisor, Team Leader or Lead Design Engineer coordinating the work of other Design Engineers.
- Design and manufacturing experience in Heavy Equipment, Truck, Machinery, or in a similar industry.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in product design, GD&T, DFMEA, welding / fabrication processes, CANbus / machine controllers, hydraulics and general electrical skills. The ability to read and generate electrical and hydraulic schematics would be a definite asset.
- Familiar with engineering software tools: SOLID WORKS, AUTOCAD, MS Office, MS Project, FEA, and DOE.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a project within an Engineering team. Manage project through all phases of design and implementation (concept, detailed design, mule, test & validation, prototype, pre-production and production).
- Excellent project management skills (the ability to accurately estimate Engineering hours and move projects forward from concept through launch and production).
- Have a strong sense of urgency and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
