This position is responsible for providing expertise in overseeing the continuing development of a dynamic web presence that addresses the current and future teaching and research needs of the TRU community. They will support the development of a communications strategy for the Librarians Department, develop communications initiatives related to promoting library services and programs as part of the Library communications team, and participate in analyzing relevant data.This position is at the Thompson Rivers University Kamloops Campus, situated on the traditional lands of the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc within Secwépemc'ulucw, the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwépemc.The successful candidate will join a dedicated team of library professionals in a newly renovated building and will actively participate in helping the library to achieve its vision, mission, values, and goals. As a faculty member, the candidate will actively pursue professional and service activities to meet library and campus-wide criteria for tenure and promotion.Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. Interview questions will be distributed to short-listed candidates at least 5 days prior to the scheduled interview; the interview will also include a presentation component, and a conversation with the University Librarian.Responsibilities:
  • Leads the TRU Librarians Department in developing and implementing a web services strategy that ensures sustainable access to research and teaching resources.
  • Leads implementation of library strategic goals and projects related to web services.
  • Ensures library website content adheres to accessibility standards (WCAG), meets university standards as mandated by provincial legislation, and that content adheres to relevant accessibility standards and inclusive language principles.
  • Serves as a primary contact with TRU Marketing and Communications in relation to TRU library website development and its position and situation within the overall TRU web presence.
  • Provides good practices and standardization guidance in the creation and maintenance of Libguides.
  • Provides troubleshooting support and configuration oversight for Library Springshare products (LibGuides, LibCal, LibWizard, LibStaffer)
  • Participates in assessment and user experience projects, in collaboration with the Assessment and User Experience Librarian, to ensure quality and improve the usability of the TRU Library website
  • Works collegially with functional area librarians to support the development of websites and other communications strategies to promote services and programs.
  • Participates as a member of the library communications team providing input on effective use of website, social media, email, intranet, and other communication channels for the promotion and marketing of library services and programs developed by the Librarians Department.
  • Leads and oversees the day-to-day activities of Library Technicians assigned to provide website or communications support.
  • Gathers, analyzes, and reports on website and other communications data in collaboration with the Assessment and User Experience Librarian.
  • Works with the Systems Librarian and Collections Librarian to ensure that website content accurately reflects current holdings and compatibly connects with discovery services.
  • Participates in library governance through the development of library guidelines, planning, and strategic initiatives.
  • Continues professional growth and development to enhance skills and knowledge. Participate in service activities at department, library, university, and professional level as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONSRequired QualificationsPlease address each of these qualifications in your application:
  • Master's Degree in Library Science/Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills in an English language workplace.
  • Demonstrated experience working in various content management systems (ex. WordPress, Springshare LibGuides CMS, Drupal, etc.)
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of markup languages (ex. HTML, CSS), standards (ex. WCAG), and techniques needed to maintain a modern website and online presence
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and to build relationships with various teams, departments, and users
  • Demonstrated experience leading, coordinating, planning, or overseeing communication, marketing, or outreach activities across channels, including web, social, and in person
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two or more years of professional librarian experience
  • Experience with initiating, planning, coordinating, and implementing complex projects, and services
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with user experience principles, standards, and testing procedures
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable working, teaching, and learning environment
Benefits and Salary:
  • Excellent benefits, including 40 days of vacation time and 20 days of professional development time.
  • Starting salary range $71,520-110,800, depending on experience; please refer to section 11.5 of the Collective Agreement for salary scale placement details
