- Lead the development of an accessibility strategy, governance framework and roadmap for digital design for Canada.
- Establish and maintain accessibility standards aligned with AODA and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1+).
- Coach and mentor colleagues and digital product teams to meet accessibility standards to follow best practices.
- Conduct accessibility evaluation on web, mobile, PDF, and other digital documents and present findings and accessibility recommendations for business stakeholders.
- Collaborate with UX designers and copy writers to implement best practices and identify potential accessibility issues in artefacts they produce.
- Support web and mobile application developers to build accessible interfaces using best practices, and accessibility tools including syntax and assistive technology.
- Triage project issues and provide related guidance.
- Share accessibility knowledge with larger Sun Life community to help the accessibility program at Sun Life grow and evolve.
- Define and track accessibility KPIs and maturity metrics across platforms.
- Support creation and delivery of content for online and in-person accessibility training and coaching.
- Foster a culture of accessibility and inclusion and stay current on accessibility laws, tools, assistive tech and emerging practices.
- Minimum 7 years digital accessibility specialist experience as a full-time coach/Subject Matter Expert (SME)
- Comprehensive knowledge of WCAG 2.1, AODA, and ADA compliance standards.
- Experience coaching or as an Accessibility SME for teams creating iOS and Android native apps.
- Proficiency with multiple assistive technologies, including desktop and mobile screen readers.
- Experience with JavaScript, HTML, CSS/SCSS, Webpack, XML/JSON.
- Ability to propose technical solutions for accessibility issues, including code samples.
- Ability to summarize and explain digital accessibility topics to non-specialists.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; comfortable managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Experience with Quality Assurance defect triage and assigning severity and priority.
- IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC)
- Experience contributing to or managing accessible design systems.
- Background in human factors, interaction design, or usability testing with people with disabilities.
