Director of Software Engineering- Toronto/ HybridOur client is seeking a Director of Software Engineering to lead and scale their Toronto office within a high-growth, AI-driven SaaS environment.This is a rare opportunity to build and grow a high-performing engineering organization from the ground up, while staying close to the technology and influencing both technical direction and team culture.You will work closely with executive leadership and global engineering teams to drive alignment, execution, and delivery of complex, high-impact products.What You’ll Do🚀 Build & Scale the Toronto TeamHire, onboard, and grow a team of 20–30 engineers across frontend, backend, AI/ML, data, and developer toolingEstablish a strong, collaborative, and high-performance engineering culture🧠 Stay Technically EngagedMaintain technical credibility and contribute to architecture and design discussionsGuide engineering decisions across modern cloud and AI-based systems👥 Develop & Mentor TalentRecruit top talent through universities and the local marketMentor engineers and develop future technical leadersDrive best practices in testing, modularity, performance, and documentation⚙️ Own DeliveryLead end-to-end delivery of product initiatives—from planning to productionPartner with Product, AI, and Engineering teams to define and execute roadmaps🌍 Collaborate Across TeamsAct as a bridge between Toronto and global engineering teamsEstablish effective processes and rituals for distributed collaborationWhat We’re Looking ForProven experience leading 15+ engineers in cross-functional teams (Sr. Manager, Director, or equivalent)10+ years of experience, progressing from hands-on engineer → leadershipStrong technical foundation in cloud-native systems, SaaS, and/or AI/ML environmentsExperience scaling teams and delivering complex, production-grade systemsStrong ownership mindset with a track record of end-to-end deliveryExcellent leadership, hiring, and mentoring capabilitiesStrong communication skills across distributed teamsNice to HaveExperience in AI-driven platforms or developer tooling environmentsBackground in high-growth or startup environmentsTechnical SkillsCloud-Native ArchitectureSaaS PlatformsAI/ML SystemsDistributed SystemsSoftware Design & ArchitectureDevTools & Developer ProductivitySDLC & Agile ExecutionDelivery & ExecutionRoadmap OwnershipEnd-to-End Product DeliveryCross-Site CommunicationExecution PlanningRisk ManagementSystem Reliability & Best PracticesLevel FlexibilityWe are targeting candidates at the Director level.
