- Oversees daily operations of the practice area and manages employees / contractors within that office.
- Provides technical leadership, guidance, and mentoring within professional or technical discipline.
- Performs peer reviews of verbal and written Reports of Findings and drawing / specification packages.
- Reviews and ensures that deliverables, including reports and proposals, prepared by staff members meet Rimkus standards of accuracy / professionalism.
- Works with district managers to develop, support, and participate in individualized training programs for new hires and other technical staff in the building sciences discipline.
- Assists district managers in conducting interviews and assessment of job candidates.
- Conducts annual written performance reviews on all direct reports.
- Assists in marketing activities to promote the practice area and build relationships with current and future clients.
- Provides guidance and oversight for large, complex, or long-term assignments.
- Reviews all draft invoices before submission as final invoices.
- Resolves issues that are presented by our clients in a timely and satisfactory manner.
- Coordinates with and supports practice area Directors as needed.
- Leads and oversees the design, analysis, and implementation of building sciences projects.
- Collaborates with architects, engineers, and project managers to integrate building science principles into the design process for various types of construction projects, such as residential, commercial, and institutional buildings.
- Performs on-site evaluations and assessments of existing buildings to identify potential concerns.
- Analyzes and interprets building condition assessments to identify areas of concern and implement corrective measures.
- Stays up-to-date with the latest advancements in building science, green building technologies, and code standards.
- Measuring of building dimensions and quantifying on site and from drawings.
- Interpretation and hand drawing of in-situ construction details.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, with a focus on Building Science.
- A Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation may be required depending on local district requirements; will be considered an asset in all jurisdictions.
- Minimum of 10+ years of related experience in a consulting engineering environment managing building science or structural restoration projects.
- Past supervisory / management experience is desired.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
- Knowledge in areas related to building science such as thermodynamics, heat transfer, and psychometrics.
- Understanding of building construction, including methods, materials, and systems is required.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail, specifically in accuracy of calculations and completeness of data collection and notation.
- Ability to handle details of a confidential nature.
- Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
- Self-motivating and able to multi-task.
- Ability to act with business integrity and professionalism.
- Physical Demands – Work is performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e. industrial, construction and/or residential sites). The employee is frequently required to stand, walk on sloped and flat roofs, sit, climb ladders, bend, climb inside attics, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to client sites or job sites. Working at heights, including accessing buildings by ladders, swing stages, and mechanical lifts will be necessary. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary. The employee must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting inspections, speaking, and interacting with clients, preparing drawings and written reports.
- Overtime – There will be some occasions where overtime (or working after normal business hours) will be required to meet the demands of the position.
- Travel – This position requires up to 30% local area travel. Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
