Closing Date: September 5, 2025Job SummaryAs a member of the TWH Krembil Brain Institute, the Neurosurgery Educator and Clinical Outreach Nurse (NECON) is responsible to improve access and patient flow between neurosurgery and non-neurosurgery centres through education and outreach.DutiesThe Neurosurgery Educator and Clinical Outreach Nurse performs the following core responsibilities:
- Plan and facilitate the implementation of initiatives to increase the knowledge and skills of teams both at UHN and in designated community hospitals to support equitable and timely access to neurosurgery services and repatriation to help maintain the organization and broader provincial neurosurgery capacity
- In conjunction with Advance Practice Educator Nurses, Nurse Practitioners and management, maintain and augment ward and critical care nurses' knowledge and skills specific to neurosurgery and neurological conditions
- Assess and augment knowledge and skills set for designated non-neurosurgical sites - travel to designated sites will be required from time to time.
- Work with Neurosurgery Education and Outreach Network (NEON) to build materials for the designated non-neurosurgical hospitals
- Communicate regional educational plans (with support from CCSO)
- Ensure appropriate processes, awareness and communication channels are in place to facilitate effective repatriation transfers from neurosurgical centre to community hospital, rehabilitation facilities and home care
- Provide expertise in neurosurgery care to aid in repatriation
- Develop protocols and care practice for non-neurosurgery centre staff
- Monitor and report on data including ALC levels, repatriation timeliness and data from CCIS and CritiCall;
- Participate in NEON meetings and other regional and provincial education
- Report to KBI exec on activities and results
- Communicates effectively in person or by telephone with internal and external parties;
- Performs cross-functional duties, as assigned or requested; and performs other duties consistent with the job classification, as required;
- The Neurosurgery Educator and Clinical Outreach Nurse collaborates with the KBI faculty within the Department of Neurosurgery and practices in a manner that reflects the Mission, Vision, and Values of UHN.
- Current registration in good standing with the Registered College of Ontario
- Master or Doctoral degree in nursing or other relevant program;
- Minimum of 3-5 years demonstrated clinical expertise in a neurosurgical or neurosciences acute patient population;
- CNA certification in specialty area preferred;
- Exemplary interpersonal and conflict management skills;
- Excellent verbal and electronic communication skills;
- Patient and empathetic demeanor;
- Knowledge of neurosurgical related community health resources an asset;
- Demonstrated leadership in education, knowledge translation, quality improvement and/or nursing leadership
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in data analysis and reporting.
- Hold a valid driver's license.
