DESCRIPTIONReporting to the Manager, Biorefinery and Processes, within the Bioproducts Centre of Excellence, the intern will join a team working on the valorization of forest biomass to develop and implement the next generation of biorefineries in Canada. Forest biomass is mainly composed of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. The team's R&D activities involve converting these polymers into various biobased (renewable) products that will replace petrochemical (non-renewable) products. The team's objective is to diversify the forest industry's opportunities and support Canada's commitment to net zero emissions by 2050. The intern will support the team's laboratory work (enzymatic and chemical hydrolysis, fermentation, etc.) as well as engineering activities (process simulations, techno-economic analyses, LCA, etc.).RESPONSIBILITIES1.Conduct literature reviews.2. Adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.3. Carry out laboratory tests to validate hypotheses on bioprocesses/biorefining.4. Participate in bioprocess development using available tools (SimaPro and Aspen Plus).5. Identify and optimize bioprocess hot spots.6. Participate in the comparative evaluation of bioprocesses using forest biomass.7. Adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.QUALIFICATIONS
  • Be enrolled in undergraduate or graduate university program in chemistry, biochemistry or chemical engineering.
  • Some experience in bioprocessing/biorefinery (an asset)

  • Team player, curious and focused on improving the forest industry
  • Resilience, Adaptability to changing priorities
  • Positive attitude and open to learning
  • Basic understanding of Aspen Plus or equivalent (an asset).
  • Fluency in French (oral and written) and English
