Job Category: EngineeringDegree Level: Bachelor's DegreeJob Description:The Specialist III, Design Quality is responsible for leading and governing Engineering Bill of Materials (EBOM) activities across the Project Design lifecycle. This role manages a team of EBOM specialists and ensures EBOM quality, consistency, and readiness at defined engineering gates. The EBOM Lead applies strong engineering judgment to distinguish valid design evolution from true EBOM defects, while ensuring clear ownership, governance, and alignment between Functional Design, Detail Design, Engineering Quality, and key stakeholders. The role requires a technically strong leader with excellent decision-making, stakeholder management, and people leadership skills. The EBOM Lead plays a critical role in supporting downstream manufacturing readiness and maintaining professional engineering governance.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.What you'll do
  • Lead and manage the EBOM team, providing clear direction, coaching, and performance management.
  • Own EBOM governance across the Project Design lifecycle, including Pre-Rev A, Rev A (EQAA), Rev 0 (EBOM), and Post-Drawing (EQEB).
  • Ensure EBOM readiness and quality at defined engineering and quality assurance gates.
  • Apply engineering judgment to assess EBOM defects and differentiate valid design evolution from non-conformances.
  • Oversee CAD imports, EBOM data extraction, validation, and reporting activities.
  • Review and approve EBOM defect classifications and ensure consistent application of agreed standards.
  • Act as the primary EBOM interface with Functional Design, Detail Design, Engineering Quality, project leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Communicate EBOM risks, trends, and readiness status clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ensure EBOM metrics and KPIs are meaningful, actionable, and aligned with engineering priorities.
  • Support audits, reviews, and governance checkpoints related to EBOM quality and compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement of EBOM processes, classifications, and reporting based on lessons learned.
  • Promote early issue detection and right-first-time quality across Project Design activities.
What you'll bring
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, Naval Architecture, or related discipline).
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of shipbuilding or complex engineering design environments.
  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience in engineering, design, or engineering quality roles.
  • Proven experience leading technical teams and coordinating cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of EBOM, configuration management, and design change processes.
  • Experience working with PLM/PDM (Product Life Cycle, Product Data Management) systems such as ARAS, or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to guide and influence technical teams.
  • Excellent engineering judgment and analytical skills to assess EBOM data and defects.
  • Strong decision-making ability in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts and EBOM status to leadership and project teams.
  • High level of stakeholder management and collaboration skills.
  • Strong understanding of engineering governance, quality assurance principles, and professional practice.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, dashboards, and engineering quality reporting.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.

The estimated salary for this position is $105,300 - $128,700. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity.
