- Design Toro’s next generation window wall systems & products under the supervision of the Lead Designer.
- Creates project design proposals as per design requests from various internal stakeholders (Estimating /Drafting/Project Managers/Etc.).
- Assists and guides the design coordinator team in coordinating new designs until completion of design phase.
- Participates in design reviews with internal and external stakeholders and provides technical insight when required.
- Drafts design detailed assemblies for architectural approval, shop fabrication, and site installation
- Supervises and checks the design documents created by other team members including fabrication drawings, cut sheets and BOM’s created.
- Develops an understanding of Toro`s equipment capabilities.
- Assists in building design mock-ups used for design validation and testing in our design lab.
- Develops products that meet current and future industry standards.
- Engages in the continuous improvement of current product lines by collaborating with ownership, production, site personnel, and service.
- Creates work instructions, SOPs, and production manuals for existing and new product lines.
- Participates and analyzes site performance testing and laboratory mock-up tests to ensure industry standards are met.
- Maintains an awareness of current industry design trends and influences by researching industry literature, attend industry specific tradeshows where necessary and site reviews.
- Evaluates lean manufacturing processes by applying knowledge of the latest techniques in fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials.
- Participates in new product feasibility studies.
- Works closely with internal and external stakeholders, providing a high level of expertise, giving advice and guidance where appropriate and sharing the best industry practice.
- Coaches and supports junior members of the team on design principles.
- Maintains an organized system of record keeping and documentation control.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or similar field.
- 2-5 years of experience in Window Wall or Curtain Wall design in a similar role.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in AutoCAD.
- 1-2 years’ experience in Inventor or SolidWorks is a strong asset.
- Ideally, experience with thermal modeling
- Must have designed window wall systems and successfully delivered newly designed products through production implementation.
- Must have experience in die design and knowledge of tolerances.
- Must have strong knowledge of building codes, product performance requirements/values and building standards/certifications
- Knowledge of industry design trends
- Ability to multi-task, manage multiple projects and meet project deadlines
- Detail oriented with high quality standards and work ownership
- Excellent team player who can work well with others as well as independently
- Ability to take a design from concept to completion
- Solid understanding of all key departments and how these inter-relate with each other
