To learn more about CMH, please visit our website at .Job Description:Salary Range: $36.84 - $50.24Full Time Contract expected to end August 2026As an instrumental member of the Laboratory team, the Medical Laboratory Technologist performs a broad range of laboratory procedures and testing in Histology. This position is responsible for quality control, and to ensure the quality of laboratory results meets Ontario Laboratory Accreditation requirements. The physical demands of the role may include but are not limited to prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling. This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
  • Accessions specimens; investigates non-conformances on irretrievable specimens prior to processing and according to Laboratory protocols
  • Grossing of specimens which includes examining, describing, dissection and measuring of small surgical specimens
  • Embeds processed tissue; checks embedding log and investigates errors / discrepancies
  • Cuts paraffin wax tissue blocks using microtome; makes, labels, histochemical stains and cover slips slides as appropriate
  • Operation and maintenance of IHC stainers and other equipment
  • Frozen sections
  • Correlates cut slides to tissue blocks
  • Cuts deeper levels as required
  • Files and archives slides and blocks
  • Assist with MLA duties as required
  • Work complies with ISO 15189 Accreditation Requirements
  • Ensures compliance with CMLTO Practice Guidelines for MLTs Practicing in Histology

  • Medical Laboratory Technologist with CSMLS certification
  • Minimum 2 years recent experience in general Histology in a hospital setting required
  • Current registration with CMLTO in good standing
  • Strong medical terminology is required
  • Strong multi-tasking, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills; strong interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to be a team player; able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of M-tuitive, Fluency Dictation Software, Meditech and other Microsoft Office computer system would be an asset
  • Performs tasks as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures
  • Is familiar with Document Control Software
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality and work ethic
  • May be required for call-back
  • Strong working knowledge immunohistochemistry preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of histology quality assurance and quality controls required
  • Demonstrates initiative & problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Commitment to maintaining high quality standards with a focus on continuous quality improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required
