Carleton is also a nationally certified Healthy Workplace and is a recipient of the Canada Awards for Excellence, Healthy Workplace Order of Excellence and Platinum Level Certification for Mental Health at Work.The university's is an ambitious vision for the future, anchored in Carleton's strengths and student-centric, community-engaged values.Duties and Responsibilities:Reporting to the Manager (Counselling Services), the incumbent will offer Single-Session counselling, initial screening and risk assessment, and navigation to appropriate resources and services (on and off campus, if required) to clients, assuring and improving equitable, inclusive and timely access to diverse mental health care at Health and Counselling Services (HCS).The incumbent will assess client's psychological and emotional development; plan and implement therapeutic interventions; participate in the ongoing evaluation of counselling service delivery. The incumbent is responsible to provide quality health care to the Carleton University community in accordance with the policies, goals, and objectives of HCS.Qualifications:The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
  • Previous or current experience providing psychotherapy and crisis intervention for individuals with complex mental health issues, including trauma, suicide risk, and self-harm.
  • Experience in clinical case formulation, treatment planning, and responding to clients in emotional crises or urgent needs, including drop-in or unscheduled formats.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to develop therapeutic relationships with students. Must be sensitive, unbiased, and capable of independent work as well as working within a shared care model.
  • Knowledge of the developmental stages and unique stresses faced by post-secondary students.
  • Strong time management skills, ability to stay on schedule, and flexibility to handle unscheduled urgent situations.
  • Recognizes limitations and knows when to consult or seek supervision.
Education and Experience:The above is normally acquired through :
  • Completion of a master's degree in a counselling field and/or social work, with current valid registration with Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario as a full Registered Psychotherapist (RP).
  • Five years working as a counsellor and/or psychotherapist in diverse settings, including at least three years' experience in a college or university setting is preferred. Experience in the provision of Single-Session counselling, as well as experience in service navigation with diverse populations.
