A role with Stantec provides the support of leading scientists, with the opportunity to grow your career in multiple directions.Your OpportunityStantec has an opportunity for an Environmental Monitor to join our Aquatics team in Terrace, British Columbia.The ideal candidate has experience implementing environmental monitoring in the marine environment. Experience leading field programs in accordance with provincial guidance is required. Work tasks will include construction support (e.g., environmental monitoring, fish salvages, water quality measurements), marine mammal observations, daily field reports, safety documentation, data entry and management, and templated reporting.Your Key ResponsibilitiesLead environmental monitoring components of projectsLead field sampling programs in accordance with provincial guidance, or other standard methods employed by StantecSupport environmental management and construction monitoring projectsComplete quality and completeness checks on field dataSupport technical report writing and environmental permit applicationsComply with Stantec's quality and independent review processPrioritize safety in all tasksYour Capabilities and ExperienceExperience conducting environmental monitoring with fish salvage, water quality monitoring, marine mammal observations, and acoustic hydrophone monitoringAble to lead field crews working in collaborative team environment, under deadlines in remote wilderness settingsProven technical, communication, writing, and organization skillsStrong interpersonal and social skills, including in-person and online collaborationExcellent attention to detail and time management skillsExcellent navigational skills and ability to troubleshoot equipment and solve problems in the fieldWillingness to be away from home, staying in hotels or camps, working 12-hour days (including evenings and weekends) under a variety of conditions for 14 days at a time or longerAble to lift and move equipment up to 23kg (50lbs) (i.e., carrying field equipment and samples)Able to endure long days of physically and mentally challenging field work while maintaining a positive, solutions-focused attitudeFamiliarity with ESRI field data collection productsProficiency with technology including the Microsoft suite of software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint)Education and ExperienceApplicants must be registered with the British Columbia College of Applied Biology as an RBTech in Training or BIT, or be eligible to immediately apply for registration.A minimum of a B.Sc. in a biological or environmental field plus at least one year of work experience, or M.Sc. in a relevant field that included field work.Experience leading field crews is required. Experience developing field program components is an asset.Relevant consulting experience is an asset.The following are assets: electrofishing certificate; Intermediate First Aid and Transportation Endorsement certificate; Marine Emergency Duties A1; Passive Acoustic Monitoring.Stantec British Columbia's standard work week is 37.5 hours. This position is eligible for overtime in the office and field for hours worked in accordance with British Columbia's labour laws. Our typical office environment involves working with computers and remaining relatively sedentary. Stantec offers a flexible work arrangement for desk-based tasks including working from Stantec office locations, working from home, or a mix depending on the situation.   • Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC - Min Salary $ 62,000.00 - Max Salary $ 89,900.00
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
