They will plan and deliver in-person and online student engagement activities and create social media content to promote the services and supports available to students via the Library. The purpose of the role is to raise student awareness of library resources and initiatives, build community with and among students, and improve the Library's understanding of and outreach to MRU students. The role requires strong communication, collaboration and organizational skills.The Library Student Ambassador will work collaboratively to promote the following goals of the program:
  • Nurturing relationships and good will between the library and student body
  • Community building with and among MRU students
  • Cultivating student engagement with the Library through activities and communication
  • Cultivating awareness about library supports and services
  • Promoting joy and fun in relation to the library, the university experience and student life
Library Student Ambassadors will work 3 to 6 hours per week. This will include a balance of scheduled hours (to attend meetings, workshops, or scheduled sessions) and unscheduled hours working independently.ResponsibilitiesStudent Outreach and Engagement
  • Plan student engagement activities in the library, across campus and online, under the supervision of the Communications Coordinator
  • Host and participate in activities and programs in-person and online
  • Set up and takes down in-person activities (e.g. table events) on campus
  • Gather information from students via informal means (brief in person interviews, short surveys)
  • Represent the Library at campus events as assigned
Content Creation
  • With supervision, create social media content in various formats, including text and video
  • Carry out related filming, script writing, storyboarding, voiceovers, and production, for approval by the Communications Coordinator
  • Draft print and online outreach and promotional materials
Research, Planning, and Consultation
  • Generate ideas for engaging students in activities/events/programs/content through collaboration with library communications coordinator and other library staff and faculty
  • Conduct background research on outreach topics
  • Consult with relevant Library employees or specialists to inform outreach and engagement topics.
  • Consult with library employees to provide student perspective on library communication, marketing and activities and service development.
  • Attend Ambassadors and Student Library Engagement Committee meetings and participates in relevant training.
QualificationsSuccessful candidates will be enrolled in a degree program at MRU and will have completed at least 30 credits prior to the start of the position. Candidates must be enrolled in a degree program during the library ambassador program tenure.

  • Creativity and comfort with social media and appearing in promotional materials
