- Ensuring safe operation of the locomotive and train movements
- Ability to carry out specific instructions detailing a train's route and specific movements
- Perform switching of railcars, including coupling and uncoupling cars, and is able to lift out coupling devices
- Signaling crew members for movement of the engine or train using a radio to indicate when to start, stop, back-up, set or release air brakes
- Having the ability to move on and off moving or stationary equipment while the train is in motion during yard switching
- Riding moving rail cars using the ladder on the side for extended amount of periods of time
- Carry out other related tasks as required by operational needs or supervisor directives.
- You have previous experience as a groundsman OR working within a rail team is preferred
- You have excellent teamwork skills and clear communication
- You are physically fit including the ability to pull oneself up and down from a railcar continuously
- You are able to lift (50lbs+) and twist air hoses, secure rail car brakes, derails, and switches
- You are proactive with the ability to take action/assess a situation with teams safety paramount
- You are comfortable with physically demanding work in all-weather conditions
- You have experience in a manufacturing environment and in operating heavy equipment (loaders, cranes, shuttle trains)
