Join the Island Gold District team and be a part of the long-life mining operations, as we prioritize our employee growth, high performance and a culture of safety and accountability.The Mill Reliability Technician plays a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all mill assets. This position combines advanced millwrighting skills with reliability-focused maintenance practices to improve equipment uptime, reduce unplanned failures, and support long-term asset performance.The technician will perform inspections, troubleshooting, precision maintenance, condition monitoring, and root cause analysis, while supporting the development and execution of reliability programs across the mill.This role requires a Red Seal Millwright Certification and demonstrated experience in industrial or mining process plants.Primary Responsibility & Duties1. Reliability & Condition Monitoring
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and condition monitoring using tools such as vibration analyzers, thermography, ultrasound, and laser alignment equipment.
  • Identify equipment degradation trends and report emerging reliability risks.
  • Conduct oil sampling, contamination control, and lubrication route improvements.
  • Participate in reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) or failure mode analysis where required.
2. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance Execution
  • Execute scheduled PM and PdM tasks in alignment with the site’s reliability strategy.
  • Complete precision maintenance including shaft alignment, balancing, torqueing, and proper installation practices.
  • Assist with updating PM tasks and work instructions based on field findings.
3. Troubleshooting & Corrective Work
  • Diagnose mechanical failures on critical mill assets such as pumps, conveyors, crushers, screens, flotation equipment, grinding mills, and material handling systems.
  • Recommend corrective actions that address root causes rather than symptoms.
  • Provide technical support to the maintenance crews during breakdowns or complex repairs.
4. Root Cause Analysis & Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in failure investigations and support root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Document findings, propose corrective/preventive actions, and follow through on implementation.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce maintenance costs, improve equipment reliability, and optimize asset performance.
5. Work Management & Documentation
  • Create detailed notifications and work requests in the CMMS (SAP or similar).
  • Maintain accurate condition reports, inspection logs, and reliability data.
  • Ensure maintenance work meets OEM specifications and site standards.
  • Collaborate with planners to support job plans, kitting needs, and scheduled shutdown scopes.
6. Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all site safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and job hazard analyses.
  • Promote safe, reliable equipment operation and proactive hazard identification.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and environmental requirements during all activities.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
  • Red Seal Millwright Certification
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in industrial, mining, or heavy process environments
  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical diagnostic skills
  • Experience with precision maintenance (alignment, balancing, fit-up)
  • Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and OEM manuals
  • Proficiency with CMMS systems (SAP preferred)
  • Strong understanding of lubrication, vibration, and failure mechanisms
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize reliability-critical tasks
Preferred
  • Reliability certifications (MLT I/II, MLA I/II, vibration CAT 1–2)
  • Experience with grinding circuits (SAG/Ball mills), flotation, conveyors, or crushers
  • Familiarity with RCA methodologies (5-Why, Fishbone, Apollo)
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, reporting tools, condition monitoring software)
  • Experience working in a continuous operation mine or milling environment
Working Conditions
  • Mill/plant environment with rotating shifts or day schedule depending on site requirements
  • Work may include heights, confined spaces, and hot/cold environments
  • Participation in shutdowns and planned outages
  • Must meet physical requirements for millwright duties
  • The schedule for this position is based in a camp operation working on a defined rotation schedule of either 7 days on / 7 days off or 14/14
  • Pay or shift range: $43.60 CAD to $67.32 CAD
