Consider joining the Climate Change Research Team at YukonU.The Climate Change Research Team at YukonU Research Centre is seeking student research assistants who are keen to contribute to research into climate change adaptation strategies that limit risk, avoid impacts, improve resilience, and act on opportunities associated with climate change impacts in the Yukon. Our work spans a wide range of topics. Our ideal candidate will have subject-matter expertise in climate change, and research skills related to reviewing and summarizing scientific reports, collecting field data, interpreting and presenting results, and writing reports summarizing findings.Duties:
  • Participate in the planning of field sampling/monitoring strategies
  • Contribute to climate change adaptation research in topics as diverse as hydrology, soil sciences, policy and education.
  • Participate in meetings with colleagues, Yukon First Nations, Yukon Government managers and employees, and communities.
  • Participate in field trips to research sites, which may involve crossing shallow streams and wetlands to access monitoring or observation sites.
  • Produce small reports, create an Excel database to store data that will be collected over the years, and use the research team's SharePoint.
Qualifications:
  • Must be a current University student with post-secondary education in a field related to natural sciences or Indigenous Governance.
  • Familiar with climate change impacts in Yukon communities
  • Eager to learn about climate change adaptation, risk management and resilience building
  • Organized and proactive colleague in the field
  • Available for day and week field trips (2-3 trips of 3-5 days and 5 to 6 other 1 or 2-day trips)
  • Experience with science writing and basic Excel functions
  • Be a skilled communicator
  • Experience in the field would be an asset.
  • First Aid Training would be an asset, but not essential.
