
Security Guard (Permanent Part- time)

Schedule: Saturdays and Sundays, from 2:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

RFR #: 1626MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise building access
- Provide a visible and attentive security presence on the main floor of the building, completing nightly surveillance in the building, perceiving and responding to opportunities that will optimize safety, and build community
- Monitor the resident, staff, and visitor activities within and around the properties and parking lot, providing support and crisis intervention as required
- Assess client’s level of intoxication, risk factors, immediate needs and vulnerabilities and then inform supervisor of any concerns
- Proactively communicate and collaborate with all client support staff
- Inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points; permitting entry. Obtains help by sounding alarms. Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities, informing violators of policy and procedures
- Conduct security patrols, baggage check, complete logs, and prepare reports as required
- Keep all client information confidential
- Provide prompt assistance in emergencies, including but not limited to overdose situations
- Complete shift report, entries in Information Log and prepare any necessary Incident reports: ensuring to maintain accurate and timely reporting as required
- Collaborate with various departments and engage with community resources as needed
- Complete required training including but not limited to FOIP, first aid and CPR, Naloxone, NVCI and De-escalation certification and attend meetings
- Maintain professionalism and adhere to all policies and procedures including but not limited to Health & Safety and HR policies and procedures
- Post-secondary education in related field preferred
- Valid Saskatchewan Security Guard license
- Front line experience in working with vulnerable populations
- Experience with crisis intervention and problem solving considered an asset
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Strong relationship building and communication skills
- Working knowledge of MS Office computer applications
- Experience or willing to gain experience using CCTV security systems
- NVCI and De-escalation certification
- Cultural sensitivity and respect for client individuality and self determination
- A broad knowledge of and experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset
- A self-starter with the ability to work in a cross-functional team
- Training and uniform will be provided for this position
- May be required to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
- This position will require working inside and outside in various climates, and will involve moderate levels of physical effort, including but not limited to, standing for long periods, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds
- Kevlar Vests and Steel toe shoes are required. Protective footwear must be worn at all times regardless of the presence of a hazard
- May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases and conditions
- This position requires focused mental effort, including but not limited to, adapting to an often fast-paced environment, operating a computer, using a CCTV security system, using two-way radio communications, perceiving and quickly responding to crises within and around the building
- Employees are to be aware that many of our clients may experience difficulties or impairment at times, which could result in them uttering threats, discriminatory statements, and other insults at your person. This may be in a raised voice, or in seeing unpredictable behaviour up to and including the possibility of them becoming aggressive
- Training on how to respond is provided, but this is to be considered typical working conditions. Many of our clients are unaware of the impact of these comments
- Complete required training to be fully equipped to work with the guests and clients of the organization; know how to de-escalate a situation while remaining calm and professional
- The position will require, frequent manual labor, conflict resolution and organizational ability
- A clear Driver’s Abstract is required prior to offer of employment
- Participate in all staff training (e.g. First Aid, SafeTALK, Nonviolent Crisis intervention) and attend monthly general meetings and support meetings with supervisor
- A satisfactory employment background check and vulnerable sector search is required
