The role consists of standard 12-hour shifts with no on-call requirements. Patient volume typically includes 25–30 in-person patients over a 24-hour period, in addition to approximately 5–15 community call patients within the same timeframe. Shifts are generally scheduled as 12 hours, with occasional 8-hour shifts, though these are rare.Compensation:
Hourly rate (no fee for service).Requirements:
- CCFP (required)
- ACLS
- Vulnerable Sector Clearance
- Comfortable working independently in a rural ER
- Eligible for licensure in the Northwest Territories
- CCFP-EM certification is not required
- Travel and accommodations fully covered (meals not included)
- Travel stipend up to $2,000 for locums travelling to Inuvik (based on travel time)
- Locum blocks are typically 1–2 weeks, with longer assignments available
Licensing & Credentialing:
Not licensed yet: NWT licensing and credentialing procedures takes 6 weeks to complete and is quite similar to other jurisdictions. The initial licensing & registration fee in the NWT is $383.
