The position reports to the assigned Chair and/or Dean of one of our several trade departments. The key responsibilities for the position include ensuring the smooth operation of our toolrooms, maintaining inventory control of tools and equipment available for distribution, and maintaining records of which products are signed out to whom. This position ensures instructors and students have the tools and equipment they need to succeed and is responsible for the shipping and receiving within the department.Specific duties may include:
  • Ensure inventory is accounted for, and tools and parts are inspected and organized.
  • Inform supervisor/instructor of tools that need to be purchased or replaced, and purchase tools on the advice of supervisor/instructor.
  • Keep all tools organized, clean, functional and ready for use.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other toolroom attendants.
  • Sign in/out tools and equipment for students and instructors.
  • Prepare, generate, pack and ship orders; process orders; operate electronic material identification tools and schedules; as well as purchasing, parts and inventory control.
  • Department fuel purchases.
  • Shipping and receiving incoming teaching aids, equipment and materials.
  • Inspecting, sorting, and cleaning the toolroom and tools.
  • Other responsibilities as requested.
  • Support transitional work.
  • May be called to support or participate in various committees.
Job Requirements
Some secondary schooling and 1 year of related experience are required. A combination of education and experience will be considered. Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:
  • general work experience in an administrative, labour or trades-related field is preferred;
  • knowledge of Snap-on Level 5 Tool Control System and WHMIS is preferred;
  • a valid Class 5 driver's license is required.
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • strong organizational and multi-tasking skills;
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • a high level of integrity, professionalism and accountability.
