Job DescriptionWhat is the Opportunity?You will join Hybrid Cloud & Intelligent Operations group as Director, Cloud Engineering/Virtualization in Tech Infrastructure’s Hosting Engineering team part of Hybrid Cloud & Intelligent Operations.At any given time, you will be working on multiple technologies across the spectrum of Compute, Storage, Network, Security, Devops, Cloud, Containers etc., and in this role you will have the opportunity to work on multiple cutting edge products, understand them and then work with other TI & T&O teams who will implement the technologies in production. You will also have the opportunity to work with a variety of start-ups / VC’s and interface with founders, CTO’s, head of product management, R&D, Engineering etc., at some very innovative companies, and evaluate their products for applicability at RBC. You will also get the opportunity to partner with other innovation labs (internal or external) to prove out new technologies.The Hosting Engineering team is responsible for setting technical strategy, Research and Development, Engineering and creating a vision and roadmap for TI. We identify emerging and disruptive technology trends in Opensource, Academia and the industry and access, recommend and implement them if it can provide a technological edge to the RBC business.The ideal candidate will have a sharp business mind, understand user needs and align them with the products that are being created. Ultimately, you are motivated to build, automate and support large scale Virtualization/Windows/Linux based infrastructure systemsWhat will you do?Be a subject matter expert on VMware and other virtualization technologiesDesign, build, automate and implement Enterprise Virtualization technologiesAutomate Virtualization/OS lifecycle using tools such as Ansible, Jenkins, GITHub, and Terraform etc.Work with Kubernetes, OpenShift and its associated ecosystem of 3rd party productsEvaluate and certify new version of Virtualization technologies, provide upgrade/migration pathProvide technical leadership and technical guidance on Virtualization/windows and Linux systemsParticipate in internal workshops and provide presentations of the proposed solution.Be a technical liaison between app-dev team and operation teamsProvide guidance on Linux/Unix securityPerform profiling and troubleshooting of existing solutionsCreate technical documentation to facilitate knowledge transferInnovationOwn and validate blueprints and design artifacts which correlate to RBC Hosting platformsPartner with Architecture and validate solution architectureDefine solution design and servicesImprovementDesign, build, and transition activities; own platform or service definitionValidate design artifacts, own portions of enterprise strategy via validation and research exercisesDeliver releases, self-organize and self-motivate to achieve directed outcomesOwn platform specification and designDeliver specifications for solutions and services artifactsGuide major enhancements of offerings by working closely with Application and Operations teams.Planning and AssessmentPrioritize, drive, and validate strategies and roadmaps for Virtualization/windows/Linux platform; produce presentation material suitable for Senior Director or VP level consumptionAuthor solutions and services artifacts and initiate ideation, strategy, and future design.Own and drive outcomes from ideation processKey contributor on the support, integration, and Engineering / design activities of 75% of the Engineering Work Portfolio for Virtualization/windows/Linux platformLearn and adopt new flavor of Virtualization/windows/Linux; research, survey, and present industry trends to the team.What do you need to succeed?Must have5-10 years of enterprise industry experience working in Engineering or Research in the Infrastructure space.Very strong Virtualization/windows/Linux/Cloud Skills, especially on VMware, RedHat Enterprise Linux and Microsoft windows ServersStrong knowledge of Ansible and should have ability to automate entire Infrastructure stack using playbooks, Jenkins and TerraformStrong scripting skills (Bash, Python, Ruby, Perl)Hands-on experience with GIT and/or GitHub/GitLab/BitBucket productsExperience in technologies such as OpenShift, Docker, Kubernetes and HadoopSkills in distributed systems, resource management solutions, storage technologies, software-defined networking, enterprise logging and monitoring solutionsDeep understanding of network switch, routing, firewallStrong knowledge on different storage type like SAN, ISCSI, NFSExperience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP)Bachelor's or graduate degree, preferably in computer science, engineering, or a related disciplineExcellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skillsBroad knowledge of software development and software testing methodologiesExperience with performance tuning and optimization, bottleneck problems analysisDisaster Recovery with proper RTO/RPO.Nice to haveKnowledge on Database like Oracle RAC, PostgresKnowledge on software defined storageFamiliarity or experience with high performance computingHands on experience on other flavor of Linux like Ubuntu, DebianExperience with Open Source technologies and business modelsPrior experience with the agile development processFamiliarity with Jira or similar toolPrevious experience doing application migrations from traditional to cloud native.What’s in it for you?We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper.
