Our office supports the vision and leadership of the university through the Dean and Vice-Provost's role as well as through oversight and guidance of graduate admissions, adherence and equitable compliance to graduate policies, and administrative direction and training for procedures and systems. We also collaboratively facilitate support for graduate students, faculty members and graduate programs with individual and systemic issues and foster graduate student engagement and professional development activities.About the RoleThe Graduate Admissions and Records Assistant is a central role supporting daily operations and graduate student experience by acting as an expert and resource person for inquiries from applicants, students, staff and faculty on applications, admissions, fee assessment, deadlines, registration, grading, records related inquiries, thesis and defence inquiries, convocation and related university policies and procedures. The Assistant works collaboratively across the records and admissions teams and more broadly across the Faculty of Graduate Studies to ensure students, faculty, and staff are connected to appropriate resources and timely support. Consults with Associate Director, Graduate Admissions, Records, & Registration and area Managers on reporting, tracking, and escalation of inquiries as needed for further review. Responsible for reviewing and processing a variety of forms and documents while checking for correct application of procedure and accuracy. Provides guidance on policy to graduate program assistants at the University on matters related to graduate admission, records related inquiries and graduation, escalates and converses with the Manager on how best to approach and track exceptions.The ideal candidate takes a people-centered approach to providing outstanding service. They desire to support and connect the SFU graduate community through an equitable approach in alignment with the values of the Faculty of Graduate Studies: resourceful, community-minded, collaborative, transparent and respectful.QualificationsHigh School graduation and one year of post-secondary education, including training in word processing, database and spreadsheet applications. 3 years of experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to complete a high volume of work within deadlines.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to adapt to new software applications and procedures and assist internal and external stakeholders with their use.
  • Good knowledge of graduate institution regulations, programs, policies and procedures.
