- Continually strive to analyze and improve efficiencies and business processes and operations of the VMC, with the goal of a sustainable not-for-profit veterinary hospital
- In collaboration with senior leadership, identify, research and analyze new business opportunities in the current market and based on needs of the DVM program and the community we serve
- Minimize exposure to risk by ensuring policies, procedures and financial controls are followed
- Responsible for the monitoring and communication of monthly and year end reporting on service area budgets
- In collaboration with USask Central Procurement services, ensure optimization and efficiency in resource management in the acquisition and maintenance of equipment and supplies required for the operation of the Veterinary Medical Centre
- Development and administration of policies and procedures related to the procurement, maintenance and repair of supplies, including routine preventative maintenance, quality control, and efficient inventory management and control
- Supplier selection and evaluation including arranging and conducting evaluation of new products, management of quotes, contracts and proposals related to the procurement of goods, services and equipment
- Ensure coordination and delivery of purchased materials to meet the time constraints of surgery, teaching and research
- Ensure best practice of standards in medical device reprocessing are met
- Ensuring pharmacy practice standards are met
- Responsible for the monitoring of resources and management of area budgets
- Promote and nurture a culture of diversity, collegiality, and acceptance with the VMC, WCVM, and university

- Collaborate with VMC leadership, WCVM leadership, Faculty, and Strategic Business Advisors
- Participate in recruitment, orientation, training, coaching, disciplinary action, and development activities with staff to build and maintain a productive and effective team

- Advise staff on policy, new initiatives and emerging challenges
- Participate in strategic planning and people planning
- Promote and nurture a culture of diversity, collegiality, and acceptance with the VMC, WCVM, and university
Knowledge of the University and Hospital policies/procedures with the ability to make sound decisions within the framework of these policies
Knowledge of pharmaceutical sourcing would be an asset
Experience in budget preparation and staffing required for a 24/7 operation would be an asset
Demonstrated aptitude for leadership; ability to lead, engage and support others. Ability to evaluate and direct the work of others
Effective management, organizational, problem solving and decision-making skills
Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
Knowledge of quality control and assurance programs
Effective skills in planning, prioritizing and goal setting, Demonstrated sound judgment and confident decision-making

Proven proficient computer application skills

Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $71,089.00 - 117,592.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
