- Lead the design and execution of complex knowledge synthesis projects (e.g., systematic reviews, scoping reviews, realist-informed reviews, environmental and jurisdictional scans)
- Establish and refine methodological standards and protocols for CARE Lab knowledge synthesis work
- Contribute to program development by identifying emerging evidence gaps and strategic opportunities for synthesis and policy-relevant research
- Ensure alignment of projects with CARE Lab priorities, including equity-oriented and community-engaged research approaches
- Oversee all phases of knowledge synthesis projects: question development, protocol design, literature searching, screening, data extraction, analysis, and reporting
- Design and contribute to applied research and evaluation activities related to programs and interventions, including process, implementation, and/or developmental evaluation, and integrate findings with evidence syntheses to strengthen policy and practice relevance
- Ensure quality assurance across all research activities, including methodological rigour, reproducibility, and transparency
- Manage post award administration across concurrent projects and timelines, including negotiation of contract terms, preparation of ethics applications, reporting to sponsors, invoicing, and project close out
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including research assistants, trainees, and collaborators (e.g., librarians, methodologists)
- Design and lead engagement strategies to support co-interpretation of findings, knowledge synthesis and policy translation
- Establish and sustain a cross-project expert network to support CARE Lab knowledge synthesis and policy initiatives
- Foster relationships that support the uptake and application of evidence in decision-making contexts
- Develop high-impact knowledge products, e.g., reports, policy briefs, manuscripts, and presentations
- Translate complex evidence into accessible formats tailored to diverse audiences (policy, practice, community)
- Support integrated knowledge translation approaches across projects
- Provide training and guidance on evidence synthesis methods, qualitative methods, and knowledge mobilization
- Supervise graduate research assistants (GRAs) and casual (hourly) positions, and train, mentor, and coach other full-time research staff in the Lab involved in knowledge synthesis projects
- Contribute to the development of competitive grant applications and contract proposals
- Lead budget development and resource planning for knowledge synthesis projects
- Provide oversight for all aspects of short-term contract-based evidence synthesis work
- Master's or Doctoral degree (PhD) in public health, health services research, epidemiology, or a related field preferred. Applicants presenting with a Master's degree and extensive, relevant experience in leading research and knowledge synthesis projects will be considered
- Minimum 10 years of senior experience leading complex research or knowledge synthesis projects
- 5-7 years' experience supervising employees; including training and monitoring performance
- Experience preparing budgets and budget justifications for grants and service contract proposals
- Advanced knowledge of University of Alberta administrative, financial, and research processes, including grant and contract administration, ethics protocols, and institutional policies governing research administration
- Advanced skills in problem-solving, critical analysis, and management
- Strong organizational and project management skills, including managing competing priorities and deadlines
- Exceptional interpersonal skills required for relationship-building and negotiating contracts;
- Strong writing skills for academic, policy, and public-facing outputs
- Experience with Indigenous health, primary health care, and/or health systems research
- Experience working with policy-makers and/or health system stakeholders
- Experience with grant and contract development and management
