- Establish engineering standards, design criteria, and technical procedures; review, approve, and stamp designs, drawings, specifications, and calculations, ensuring professional accountability within the team.
- Develop design management processes and conduct technical reviews; translate engineering concepts into practical, operational solutions that operations teams can implement effectively.
- Direct short, mid, and long-range mine planning with detailed sequencing, haulage optimization, and equipment requirements to maximize resource extraction and operational efficiency.
- Engineer and optimize blast design specifications including pattern layout, timing, and explosive selection to achieve target fragmentation while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Design and manage geotechnical programs, including slope stability analysis, pit wall design, and ground control; provide engineering risk assessments and develop practical mitigation strategies.
- Oversee survey operations including grade control, volumetric calculations, and as-built documentation; ensure accuracy of spatial data systems per engineering standards.
- Engineer and execute capital projects from concept through commissioning; manage consultants, contractors, and vendors ensuring deliverables meet technical specifications and quality standards.
- Conduct project risk assessments and implement engineering controls to mitigate technical and operational risks.
- Develop operational and capital budgets and execute technical strategies; lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize processes and reduce operating costs.
- Mentor engineering personnel in technical competency and professional development; champion safety culture and ensure compliance with regulatory and professional engineering standards.
- Advanced knowledge in engineering principles, design methodologies, geology, surveying, and geotechnical engineering.
- Proficiency in Deswik mine planning software; experience with AutoCAD and engineering calculation tools.
- Practical, solution-oriented approach with ability to simplify complex technical challenges and operationalize engineering concepts.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills for engineering reports, specifications, and regulatory submissions.
- 10+ years open-pit mining experience with substantial involvement in engineering design, mine planning, and process optimization.
- 5+ years at senior/supervisory level with demonstrated engineering project leadership.
- This position is based in Geraldton, Ontario.
- Professional Engineering Designation, or eligible to obtain.
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
