With a strong reputation for quality, reliability, and long-standing client relationships, Birch Hill continues to grow in scale and project complexity while maintaining a collaborative, hands-on culture.Birch Hill Construction is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its Moncton, NB office and oversee day-to-day accounting operations. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting project-based accounting activities. The Accounting Manager will lead and develop a team of three accounting professionals and work closely with the Director of Finance on ad hoc projects and strategic initiatives.Responsibilities will include:
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure accurate, timely financial reporting in accordance with ASPE and internal accounting policies
- Review and reconcile general ledger accounts, including job cost, WIP, inventory, fixed assets, accruals, and project-related balances
- Prepare and review financial reporting packages, variance analyses, and management reports to support operational decision-making
- Manage full-cycle job cost accounting, including percentage-of-completion reporting, WIP schedules, contract setup, billing, revenue recognition, and retainage tracking
- Partner closely with Project Managers and Operations to review job performance, costs, change orders, margins, and cash flow, proactively identifying project risks and opportunities
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a small accounting team, providing delegation, coaching, performance feedback, and support for ongoing development
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls while identifying and implementing process improvements, workflow efficiencies, and system enhancements
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions, supporting audit, tax, and statutory compliance requirements including sales and payroll tax filings
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- CPA designation required
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience
- Construction or project-based industry experience strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of ASPE, job costing, WIP, and percentage of completion accounting
- Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Experience managing banking relationships, audits, and external advisors
- Demonstrated ability to partner with operations and influence decision making
- Strong leadership, communication, and business acumen
- High integrity, sound judgment, and a hands-on leadership style
