This role is fundamental in managing workflow, processes, procedures, education and training relating to recent federal government regulations on Research Security. The position will work closely with colleagues in Research Ethics and Security, as well as other core areas in Research Services, as we develop and implement initiatives to ensure compliance obligations relating to Research Security are met. Specifically, this role will work closely with the Director, RES and Coordinator, RES.About the RoleThis important role will identify, analyze, and apply relevant legal, regulatory, and policy frameworks within the governance structure and operating model for assessing, mitigating and monitoring research security risks in research studies. They will advise the research community on research security matters, will undertake open-source due diligence, and will develop and present training and education materials. Developing and implementing quality assurance and monitoring initiatives to ensure compliance obligations are being met are key tasks. They will build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, particularly with other universities, organizations, and government agencies to support the research community in all matters relating to Research Security.The ideal candidate will have experience in research administration (research security and grants preferred), policy analysis, and legal/regulatory compliance. They will have well-developed relationship building skills and will thrive in a complex multi-divisional work environment. They will be a self-starter and keen to not only develop the operational aspects of this area but will also be enthusiastic about instilling a positive culture in the RES team with the aim to focus on relationships, learning and education, as well as efficient, effective, pragmatic and innovative solutions to support each other and the SFU research community.QualificationsBachelor' degree in Business, Commerce or Law, or related discipline and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a regulatory compliance environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in policy analysis, research administration (research security and grants), and compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing policy, process, and procedures.
  • Analytical skills to collate, report, and interpret large volumes of complex and diverse information for risk assessment purposes.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with internal and external stakeholders and resolve conflict from a place of curiousity and learning.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
