Alberta, CanadaJob Family Group: Maintenance, Reliability and TurnaroundsWorker Type: RegularPosting Start Date: September 4, 2025Business unit:Experience Level: Experienced ProfessionalsJob Description:What’s the roleThe Shell Scotford Upgrader team is hiring a Scotford Instrumentation Technician (internally known as UPGS Instrumentation Technician), reporting to the Instrumentation Maintenance Team Leader in the Scotford Production Department. The role focuses on instrumentation maintenance to ensure the Upgrader’s reliability and safety. This role operates on a 9/80 schedule: 9-hour days Monday–Thursday, alternating Fridays off with an 8-hour Friday every other week.This role is accountable to perform maintenance and troubleshooting activities within their skill set in support of safe, reliable operations. Work is guided by their MTL and the CTM works with other team members to deliver a combined maintenance schedule. Working closely with other craft disciplines as they execute repairs and perform preventative maintenance to deliver high reliability and efficient equipment care. ThisShell Scotford consists of two (2) Upgraders as well as a Refinery and Chemicals plant. Refinery and Chemicals are represented by Unifor Local Union 530A while this position for the Upgraders is not under a collective bargaining agreement.Accountabilities:Verify and execute work as defined on approved work ordersActive engaging in ensuring the safety of self and co-workers, providing, and accepting interventions to achieve Goal Zero and adhering to Shell Scotford policies and Shell’s Life Saving rulesPerform troubleshooting, testing, calibration, and repair of electronic and pneumatic process field devices and equipment such as various types of control valves, control loops, and primary field devicesWork with technical support, operations, and engineering groups in reliability programs, root cause analysis, risk analysis, and failure mode cause and effect analysis as requiredProvide input into shutdown work scope and overhaul issuesAid in integrity audits of equipment installations for new projectAssist in the development/updating of preventative maintenance systems, spare part programs, maintenance practicesPerform lead roles and directs the work of contractors and other Shell Craft Team Members as requiredSupport the business\assets with various coverage\ Projects and turn aroundsSupport assets outside the primary hired location as neededDemonstrate a strong drive to learn and innovateWhat you bringMust have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employerMust possess a high school diplomaMust possess a valid driver's licenseAt least 10 years of experience as a ticketed journeyperson in Instrumentation, including 5 years in industrial and petrochemical maintenanceMust have experience in Process Instrumentation MaintenanceUsing safe lifting techniques, able to lift and carry 20 kg from ground to waist levelAbility to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spacesAbility to work safely wearing a respirator or Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)Must be willing to participate in an emergency response team including Fire Fighting TrainingWilling to comply with Shell's drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and proceduresMust be willing to work overtime shifts, willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as per the rotating shift scheduleMust be willing to work outdoors in inclement weatherPreferred Qualifications:Skilled in troubleshooting and maintaining Fieldvue systems, smart devices, and Bentley vibration monitoring equipmentExperience with Fieldbus technology is considered an assetFamiliarity with Foxboro and Honeywell DCS systems is advantageousProficient in digital tools and technologies, with proficiency in Office 365 (including OneNote and MS Teams), Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate), P6 Team Member, and iPad usageCapable of reading and interpreting piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and loop drawingsProficient in standard computer operations and Microsoft Office applicationsIf you don’t see yourself fully reflected in every job requirement listed in the posting above, we still encourage you to reach out and apply.
