As we continue to grow our business and enhance our service offerings locally, we are eagerly seeking a highly motivated and technically competent Senior Municipal Designer to join our Calgary team.
In this role, you will have the ability to collaborate seamlessly with EXP's multidisciplinary team from our four Western Canadian offices and ninety offices across North America on some of region's most exciting infrastructure projects! If desired, you will also be given the opportunity to work on some very unique and challenging projects from across North America and abroad.Your Role & Responsibilities:Design & Technical Leadership:
- Prepare and certify detailed designs, drawings, and specifications for municipal infrastructure projects involving site grading, site development, street reconstruction, water distribution, wastewater collection, stormwater management, parking, and active transportation.
- Lead design coordination across disciplines (civil, structural, transportation, environmental).
- Ensure designs comply with municipal standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
- Develop and implement asset management strategies for municipal infrastructure systems.
- Perform condition assessments and lifecycle cost analysis to support long-term planning.
- Provide recommendations for rehabilitation, replacement, and optimization of assets.
- Support project managers in delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Review and validate design deliverables prepared by junior staff.
- Participate in quality assurance and interdisciplinary design reviews.
- Collaborate with municipal clients to understand project objectives and constraints.
- Provide technical guidance and present design solutions during meetings and workshops.
- Mentor junior designers and engineers, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to internal design standards and best practice guidelines.
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering.
- Professional designation (P.L. Eng or P.Eng.) preferred.
- Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, GIS tools).
- Strong knowledge of municipal standards, TAC guidelines, MMCD, and provincial regulations.
- Knowledge of sustainability principles and green infrastructure design.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and collaboration abilities and an ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under deadlines.
- 10+ years of experience in municipal infrastructure design within a consulting environment.
- Familiarity with Western Canada municipal standards and practices.
- Experience in infrastructure asset management and lifecycle planning along with experience with asset management software and data-driven decision-making.
