AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Junior Environmental Scientist to join our team in Toronto. This is a fulltime position (40 hours per week). The successful candidate will assist with—and progressively learn to complete—core tasks related to Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, including groundwater, soil, and vapour monitoring and sampling. Additional responsibilities may include subcontractor supervision and preparing technical reports for peer review.Your role
The following is a list of some of the day-to-day responsibilities of the successful candidate. In all instances you will work as member of a project team.
- Follow and enforce rigorous health and safety standards and protocols at work sites.
- Understand and adhere to company-specific and industry-wide technical procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Implement project-specific environmental work plans.
- Operate and maintain typical field equipment including water level meters, combustible gas indicators, water quality monitors, GPS, and elevation survey equipment.
- Prepare and submit environmental samples under Chain of Custody procedures for chemical analysis at third party laboratories.
- Document your work and interactions in field notes and logs, photographs and electronic data collection systems.
- Contribute to other project life-cycle activities including project planning and coordination, Health and Safety Plan development, subcontractor supervision, project quality and reporting.
- Participate in technical and operational training.
- College Diploma in an Environment, Earth Sciences, or Engineer program, or any other physical science-related diploma or degree programs.
- Between one to three years of environmental consulting experience.
- A good understanding of groundwater monitoring and sampling techniques, soil descriptions and terminology, and quality assurance / quality control is considered an asset.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
- Self-motivated, high energy, strong organizational and time management skills.
- Capable of understanding and appropriately applying prescribed safety and technical protocols.
- Willing to undertake field work year-round and travel throughout the province of Ontario, at times for extended periods (weeks).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
- Candidates must possess a Valid Class 5 Full driver’s license.
