- This role leads the Strategic Communications function. The function plays a critical role in protecting and enhancing the organization’s global brand through proactive initiatives that translate CPP Investments' investing expertise into compelling, persuasive narratives for external stakeholders. This includes producing and sharing insight-rich content (speeches, op/eds, white papers), convening global platforms, and engaging with leading partners to demonstrate the value of long-term investing.
- This role’s objective is to reinforce the organization’s credibility, leadership, and comparative advantages as a global investor. The role has specific responsibilities for activities across five, mutually reinforcing segments: CEO External Thought Leadership; Senior Management Team Speaking Engagements; CPP Investments Insights Institute; Alumni Network; and Sustainability Communications.
- Oversee development and management of long-, medium-, and short-term projects with a high degree of organization and attention to detail. Ensure flawless execution of materials development and announcements.
- Manage the ongoing development of executive materials which may include analysis and recommendations, briefing materials, speaking notes, and other strategic communications and public affairs products.
- As appropriate, own and manage relationships with critical external stakeholders including the bilateral sharing of key information to influence desired outcomes.
- Conduct the necessary analysis and consultations necessary to deliver critical insights to internal and external stakeholders.
- Recruit and retain high-integrity, high-performance and partnership-focused Public Affairs and Communications professionals.
- Create a motivating work environment by providing regular performance feedback, development oversight, and mentorship to team members.
- A degree in communications, public relations, journalism, business or equivalent experience in a related field.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience, with some of that time spent specifically in a communications role.
- Expert-level written and verbal communication skills, speechwriting, presentation skills and confidence interacting across all levels of an organization and with varied other individuals within the investment community and society.
- Validated financial competence and proven understanding of financial services and/or the asset management industry.
- Experience with business executives and in investing is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to foresee issues and proactively work to address them.
- Comfortable managing a team in a fast-paced, ambiguous and deadline-driven environment.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofing skills, and the ability to communicate persuasively.
- Strong, demonstrated knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Outlook.
- Proficiency using AI software (Copilot, ChatGPT).
- Strong understanding and proficiency with corporate use of social platforms (LinkedIn, Twitter).
