Our private ownership provides long-term business planning and strategic decision horizons supported by a strong financial position.Job DescriptionHatch and Bantrel have formed the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. After successfully completing the Definition Phase Study for the project, the HBJV is currently carrying out the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI) and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published TIC of US $5.3-5.7 Billion this will represent one of the largest projects and private investments in Canada. The HBJV will use a hybrid of best-in-class new developing technologies and systems as well as the proven HBJV suite of tools to execute this exciting projectWe are currently seeking a qualified Electrical & Instrumentation Superintendent to join our Mining team, based out of Leroy, SK, Jansen Site. The Electrical & Instrumentation Superintendentis responsible for supervising and overseeing field construction activities from contractors such as:
  • Installation of E-Houses.
  • Installation of permanent electrical equipment (i.e. disconnects, receptacles, distribution panels, motor control centers, transformers, neutral grounding resistors, UPS system).
  • Installation of raceway, cable bus, power cables, control cables, telecommunication, grounding and bounding, lightning protection, lighting fixtures, and electrical heat tracing.
  • Completion of PAU’s (pre-assembled modules) electrical and instrumentation interconnections.
  • Mounting & wiring of instruments (incl. in-line instruments).
  • Calibration, care & preservation of electrical equipment and instruments.
  • Installation and upkeep of temporary power distribution and lighting by contractor for construction requirements.
  • Non destructive testing.
in this full time short term role
  • Please note this position is not eligible for a relocation subsidy or living out allowance. This will be a camp position on a 14 day on 7 days off rotation.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Ensures the effective implementation of Jansen Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) processes, plans, procedures and ensures alignment with the project goals.
  • Embraces and actively participates in the HSE Field Leadership program.
  • Responsible for electrical and instrumentation construction operations. Supervises and coordinates contractors’ operations. Deals directly with contractors in the field. Monitors and ensures assigned construction contractor’s activities and performance follows expectations (i.e. within schedule and budget, in compliance with HSE requirements). Performs regular field inspections.
  • Validates the sequence of activities and level of effort, and provide support to the general superintendent to complete the execution analysis,
  • Operates day-to-day ensuring that activities are prioritized in line with broader objectives.
  • Proactively identifies field changes, in collaboration with Project Construction Coordinators and Field Engineering representatives. Ensure directives are clear, concise, and communicated timely. Ensure that all stakeholders involved completely understand what is relevant. Ensure no work undertaken before management review and approve.
  • Liaises and coordinates with HBJV Field Engineering, Site Material Management, Contracts, Project Controls, Quality, HSE, Common Services and Commissioning (i.e., actively supports Field Engineering team in the resolution of technical queries and Quality team with NCR resolutions).
  • Contributes to site-wide traffic management planning, management of temporary infrastructure.
  • Manages the review, monitoring, and communication of changes for SIMOPs (simultaneous operations).
  • Contributing to constructability reviews to ensure upcoming scopes are thoroughly planned and do not include fatal flaws.
  • Works closely with other superintendents within the surface process IPT and will be required to backfill for them during shift and when on leave.
  • Manages time effectively and adheres to deadlines.
  • Strong participation in the Jansen Risk Program as a Risk Owner or Control Owner.
  • Validates reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, job manpower forecasts, and provide input related to cost forecasts.
  • Reviews and approves contractor permits, and requests.
  • Adheres to all project job instructions, SOP’s, Bantrel Construction procedures while maintaining the corporate code of ethics.
  • Additional duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Actively engaged in workplace HSE.

  • Strong ability to learn and quickly comprehend new concepts and technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to act confidently and decisively to avoid escalation. Must have judgment to know when to appropriately escalate issues up the chain of command.
  • Understanding of Work Face Planning implementation and demonstrated ability to review detailed work plans for fatal flaws, poor optimization, and interface issues within and external to the plan.
  • Working knowledge of 3D model.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and to interface and communicate effectively with others.
