About the Opportunity
  • Manage the end-to-end processing of weekly and bi-weekly payroll for unionized and non-unionized employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable legislation, tax requirements, and collective agreements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment of wages, including regular hours, overtime, premiums, bonuses, and other earnings adjustments.
  • Interpret and apply collective bargaining agreements, including union dues, benefits, and employee entitlements.
  • Oversee payroll deductions, including taxes, benefits, retirement contributions, and other statutory and voluntary withholdings.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations, including income tax, CPP, EI, and WSIB requirements.
  • Prepare and submit payroll remittances and year-end filings, including T4s and T4As.
  • Conduct regular payroll audits to ensure accuracy, identify discrepancies, and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead, mentor, and support the payroll team, ensuring high standards of accuracy, service, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Provide ongoing training and guidance to enhance team performance and capabilities.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries, resolving issues and discrepancies in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to address payroll concerns and ensure effective communication across departments.
  • Evaluate and enhance payroll processes by implementing efficiencies, controls, and best practices.
  • Partner with HR and Finance to ensure seamless integration between payroll, HRIS, and financial systems.
  • Support the development of improved reporting tools and streamlined workflows.
  • Ensure accurate payroll-related journal entries, general ledger postings, and account reconciliations.
  • Work closely with Finance to align payroll data with financial reporting requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records, including compensation, deductions, and benefits data.
  • Ensure all documentation is properly stored in accordance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Support payroll budgeting and forecasting activities in collaboration with the Finance team.
  • Provide payroll-related analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.
About You
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification from the National Payroll Institute is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Extensive experience managing payroll in a unionized environment is required.
  • Have used large ERP's (they use Ceridian, ADP)
  • Experience with general ledger postings, reconciliations, and payroll accounting is required
