Transdev Canada is hiring Casual Transit and Paratransit Operators for our Vernon location.As a Transit Operator, you will be responsible on transporting passengers on public transit vehicles while ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers.A Paratransit Operator provides specialized transportation services for passengers with physical disabilities or mobility challenges who are unable to use conventional fixed-route transitThe successful candidate will be trained on both sides.Your Role
  • Operate large transit buses or smaller accessible vehicle designed for transporting passengers with mobility aids along designated fixed routes according to published schedule.
  • Maintains a strong attendance record.
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections and report any maintenance issues promptly.
  • Stops at designated points to load and/or unload passengers.
  • Assist passengers in boarding, securing mobility devices, disembarking safely and in challenging weather conditions.
  • Provide courteous, compassionate and personnalized customer service and information about routes and schedules.
  • Follow traffic laws, transit policies, and safety regulations.
  • Communicate with dispatch for updates, schedule changes, or emergencies.
  • Collect fares or manage fare system validation.
  • Completes and submits written reports concerning passengers and all accidents.
  • Operates on-board computer destination signs.
  • Assumes any and all other duties assigned.

Your Profile
  • You have a valid Class 1 or Class 2 license with air brakes endorsement.
  • You have a clear driver abstract and adherence to safety regulations.
  • You possess experience in operating accessible vehicles (e.g., wheelchair lifts, securement systems), as well as driving large vehicles in urban environments.
  • You have strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
  • You have the ability to assist passengers with disabilities and mobility devices.
  • You possess good knowledge of city streets, traffic patterns and transit policies.
  • You demonstrate strong physical condition and the stamina required to operate a bus for extended periods
  • You are in compliance with background checks, medical fitness assessments, and drug screening.
You are reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic and willingness to work a variety of shift.Your Location
  • This is a casual, unionized position located in Vernon.
  • Shifts are subject to frequent changes based on operational needs.
