Diagnostic Services seeks application from medical laboratory technologists for a permanent position in the Clinical Pathology Laboratory. The Clinical Pathology Laboratory is a core laboratory providing hematology, chemistry and endocrinology testing services. The laboratory is supported by four Clinical Pathologists.What we offer:

RESPONSIBILITIES:The position involves receiving and analyzing sample submissions from the Atlantic Veterinary College Teaching Hospital; PEI veterinary clinics, industries, and researchers; NB, NS, and NFLD provincial laboratories, animal health laboratories, veterinary clinics and industries; and clients from other areas of Canada.Tasks include:
entry of patient demographics and sample test requests into a computerized laboratory management information system
harvesting sera from the sample submissions, bar coding samples and directing them to the proper bench for chemistry, endocrinology, hematology, coagulation, cytology or urinalysis testing
performing Quality Control procedures and interpreting appropriately
analyzing and verifying diagnostic test results
troubleshooting equipment and method issues
alternating between bench work that includes performing urinalysis, testing serologies, making and staining differential slides, performing manual differentials, preparing mail out samples; and operating the Cobas C501, Cobas Pure, and Zoetis VS2 chemistry analyzers, the Siemens Immulite 2000 endocrinology analyzer, the Sysmex XN and Zoetis HM5 hematology analyzers, the Stago coagulation analyzer and the Zoetis i-STAT Point of Care analyzer
Phlebotomy is not a task of this laboratory.QUALIFICATIONS:
Medical Laboratory Technologist designation with certification from the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science
One year of recent diagnostic experience in a clinical chemistry, endocrinology, or hematology laboratory setting
Excellent organizational, computer and communication skills
Experience with laboratory instrumentation
Familiarity with quality control protocols
Excellent bench skills are essential
The ability to work under minimum supervision, to multitask and to troubleshoot technical issues at the bench and instrument level is desirable
