- Opening, maintaining and closing files for storage
- Tracking deadlines and court dates in the calendar, a bring-forward system, and providing reminders
- Communication with clients, opposing counsel, and court staff
- Scheduling meetings and appointments, depositions, and mediations
- Preparing correspondence for lawyer's signature, emails, memos to file and file updates
- Preparation and assembly of documents, correspondence, using firm software and filing documents with courts
- Docketing and preparation and delivery of invoices and follow up of account receivables
- Faxing, photocopying, scanning and filing of all communications and documents received and sent in all formats
- Other duties as required
- 5+ years' litigation experience
- Legal Assistant or Law Clerk diploma/certificate an asset; a combination of education, training and experience will also be considered
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities while paying attention to detail
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure, Construction Act and Liens
- Experience with Superior Court, Small Claims Court, Federal Court, Tribunals, Bankruptcy and Commercial Court, and filing in the online portal Justice Services or Case Center
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365, Outlook, Adobe Pro, ACL/Xchangedocs, Ghost Practice
