- Provides advice, guidance and subject matter expertise throughout the planning, design, and delivery of the program as it relates to airside civil design and construction including compliance with all relevant codes and standards;
- Ensures that civil design and construction comply with technical requirements, including design reviews of contractor / designer, submittal reviews, and testing;
- Assesses alternative technical proposals submitted by the contractor and provides feedback as to the feasibility of the proposal and alignment to GTAA requirements;
- Conducting Facility Alteration Permit (FAP) compliance reviews for all proposed renovations, alterations, maintenance work and new construction;
- Coordinates the technical elements of the program with respect to civil / structural engineering / architectural discipline including establishing targets / goals for the program;
- Monitors the input of the designer throughout the construction phase (RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, mock-up approvals, punch list, etc;
- Provides Management level progress reports and briefings with respect to structural design progress, issues, and opportunities;
- Coaching, mentoring, and supporting the career development of GTAA staff.

- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in civil/site development/construction/airport engineering applying unique engineering principles in airfield pavement structural design. Good understanding of traffic, geotechnical and municipal engineering;
- Demonstrated experience applying Canadian aerodrome standards (TP312 4th and 5th editions) and international standards such as ICAO and FAA to review designs, analyze situations, determine challenges, and develop solutions;
- Extensive knowledge of CSA design codes and standards, including materials, methods and standard practices for civil construction;
- Demonstrated experience using engineering design software preferably MicroStation CAD software, Bentley InRoads/OpenRoads Designer 3D modelling programs, AviPLAN and AutoTURN packages;
- Knowledge applying Geometrics Design Standards for Ontario Highways and planning, designing, and building transportation systems and infrastructures;
- Proficiency with various computer applications including Bluebeam and Microsoft Office suite;
- Ability to create, implement and update schedules and priorities for team management and to update managers or Program leads;
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills including the ability to facilitate meeting / workshops with large groups of stakeholders.
