Performing all functions of a nuclear security officer:
Performing conventional security activities on Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) Property.
Carrying and effectively employing a variety of weapon systems, surveillance systems, and communication devices.
Participating in training activities and maintaining all regulatory and non-regulatory qualifications and certifications.
Supervising and overseeing daily operations:
Completing pre-job briefs.
Ensuring that all daily posts are adequately staffed.
Ensuring equipment is maintained and in a safe condition.
Ensuring all projects and tasks are prioritized.
Reporting:
Producing clearly written reports to the Supervisor and or Management.
Ensuring all reporting requirements are met as required in the Nuclear Security Regulation.
Emergency Response:
Exercising control of NRF teams as a Team Leader in adherence with the Security Tactical Response Plan.
Responding and supporting all other emergencies on site and liaising with other emergency response groups.
Exercising command in the absence of a Shift Sergeant.
Carrying out any and all duties of a Nuclear Response Force security officer at Chalk River Laboratories (CRL).
Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
Education
NRF Basic Training Course certification. Must maintain qualification in Lethal and Less Lethal weapon systems, Defense Tactics, and all other training requirements from REGDOC 2.12.1.
Security Operations Corporals' qualification.
Experience
Practical experience in the safe handling and tactical employment of various types of lethal and non-lethal weapons, day and night surveillance systems, restraint systems, and various tactical equipment deployed at CRL.
Experience assisting in the supervision of employees and managing work assignments would be considered an asset.
Experience with security operations and compliance requirements at CNL.
Thorough understanding of routine procedures, various regulatory documents, site access control, surveillance and detection systems, security reporting requirements, physical layout and geography of the CRL site, and organizational objectives.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of management and staff.
Ability to be discreet, tactful, honest, trustworthy and have personal integrity.

Keen attention to detail.
Basic understanding of business office procedures to maintain ID programs, computerized lists, and registration programs.
Knowledge and experience of computer fundamentals, including Microsoft Office software and principles of data processing to input and retrieve data for various security reports.
Knowledge of safety and health, including personal fitness, is essential for carrying out security responsibilities.
Knowledge of Canadian criminal justice, criminal and civil law, and surveillance to carry out CNSC regulations and understand civil rights.
Security Clearance Eligibility Required
Level 2 Secret requires a minimum of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom.
