- Preparing deliverables and products such as presentation materials, calculations, drawings, specifications, selections, and cost estimates related to heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) and plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities.
- Performing field investigation for incorporating existing conditions into construction documents.
- Performing construction administration duties, such as shop drawing review, RFI response, construction inspection, and respond to client questions.
- Conduct on-site visits weekly to monitor construction progress, address issues, and ensure compliance with design specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with design teams and contractors to resolve technical and construction-related challenges.
- Perform quality assurance reviews, ensuring that construction aligns with approved plans and specifications.
- Working within a project team environment and possessing good presentation and client interface skills.
- Coordinating work with other project disciplines.
- Working independently and making technical mechanical decisions based on building code interpretation and company standard practice.
- Demonstrating creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual project delivery, technical and client challenges, determining technical objectives and requirements, organizing programs and projects, and developing standards and guides for technical activities and applications.
- Staying abreast of industry standards and approaches, and best practices.
- Ensuring project work is undertaken is accordance with corporate health and safety policies and quality management systems. Mentoring junior staff.
- Performing assignments of limited scope and complexity. Uses a variety of standard engineering methods and techniques in solving problems.
- Assisting more senior level engineers in carrying out technical tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data and adherence to prescribed analysis, design, or computation methods.
- Applying standard practices and techniques in specific situations. Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering plus two (2) years' experience designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities.
- Holding or the ability to obtain Secret Level security clearance
- Professional Engineer (or has the ability to become one within 12 months) in Ontario.
- Experience designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities within an engineering firm)
- Working experience with NBC, BCBC, BCPC, SMACNA, ASHRAE codes and standards
- Experience using HAP, AutoCAD, REVIT, Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Project, and Power Point
- Experience with Building Energy Modeling and their software platforms (IES, eQuest, Energy Plus, HOT2000, RETScreen, etc.) would be considered an asset
- Experience with sustainability standards (LEED, Net Zero, Passive House, Envision) would be considered an asset
- Fire protection design experience
- Familiarity with ISO quality management system
- Experience working within internal multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication
