The ideal candidate is a warm and loving person who makes meaningful connections with those they are caring for.Cook reports to Food Services Manager/ Food Services Supervisor and is expected to demonstrate commitment to resident safety by providing high-quality care in accordance with the organization's vision and mission.Responsibilities:
  • Preparation of high quality, nutritious meals according to the menu plan, and the requirements as per Ministry of Long-Term Care,
  • Ensures that meals are an experience rather than a task,
  • Follows the cleaning procedures as established by the Food Services Manager
  • Maintains a safe working environment,
  • Assists in the First in First Out process of food and supply products
  • Works collaboratively with all Food Services workers and other departments,
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:
  • Chef Training or culinary management diploma or certificate granted by a College of Applied Arts and Technology or a private career college (preferred)
  • Or a certificate of qualification in the trade of Cook or Institutional Cooked that was issued by:
  • (i) the Director of Apprenticeship under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998,
  • (ii) the Registrar of the College under the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, or
  • (iii) the Registrar of Skilled Trades Ontario under the Building Opportunities in the Skilled Trades Act, 2021; (preferred)
  • Or in the reasonable opinion of the Home, have appropriate skills, knowledge and experience
  • in the fields of institutional, health care, restaurant or hospitality cooking to perform the duties required of this position
  • Food Handlers Certification provided by Public Health or certified agencies
  • Good communication skills and be able to multi-task
  • Must understand proper preparation techniques and know how to use commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Skilled cooking work experience involving the preparation of a variety of complex foods
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • To show evidence of being focused on people's feelings when interacting and knowing how to turn a task into positive social interaction.
  • To undertake and meet all legal requirements within a context of promoting individuals' rights and measuring/reducing elements of risk.
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (within the last 6 months), recent TB test results (within the last 6 months) or Chest X-ray (within the last 1 year),
  • Two supervisory references required,
  • Provide proof of all required vaccines. The Employer strongly recommends to “stay up to date” with the recommended vaccines. Vaccination requirements are subject to changes as determined by the Employer.
