- Ensuring safe practices in the terminal operations & safe working environment for all terminal staff, including verifying that all staff are properly trained;
- Working with all terminal managers and supervisors to ensure daily adherence to all relevant safety practices and policies;
- Familiarizing terminal staff with policies and procedures as they relate to the specific terminal, conducting drills and coordinating training for terminal staff;
- Conducting rounds of the terminal, identifying, reporting, and rectifying safety security or customer service issues;
- Participating in Join Site Safety Committee meetings as a management representative;
- Coordinating the terminal response in the event of an emergency;
- Preparing annual terminal operational budge for labour, consumable supplied, maintenance, and other operational services;
- Monitoring and controlling terminal operations expenditures, explain variances, monitor labour costs and authorize overtime, taking timely preventative and corrective measures;
- Assessing hiring terminal management/ staff in a manner consistent with the company policies and procures and with the support of the terminal manager and human resources, including signing the letter of offer;
- Establishing clear performance plan for each subordinate regularly evaluating and documenting performance, including reviewing and evaluating probationary employees to determine their ultimate acceptability as an employee of the terminal;
- Applying the provisions of the collect agreement and acting in accordance with delegated authorities on matters of discipline by conducting initial discussions ad providing step 1 written warnings;
- Promoting effective teamwork though timely & effective communication in matters relevant to terminal employees;
- Working with crewing on scheduling and workforce needs;
- Working with terminal managers to ensure that daily operations meet all BCF standards;
- Developing watch budget submissions and contributing to the development of the cross-watch terminal operations budget;
- Coordinating revenue process; ensuring security & deposit of revenue;
- Participating in review, evaluation and promotion of terminal personnel;
- Ensuring terminal facilities, buildings grounds and equipment are maintained according to BCF standards;
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience managing a passenger transportation terminal, preferably Marine transport
- Demonstrated experience in implementing strategic initiatives, leading both a unionized and non-unionized workforce
- Demonstrated experience in creating and managing large operating and capital budgets
