- OT/PT Assistant diploma from a recognized College program.
- Minimum of one year of experience working directly with children and youth with special needs, in paid, student placement and/or volunteer capacity.
- Current CPR or BCLS certificate or willingness to obtain within three months of start date.
- Ability to take a child- and family-centered, strengths-based and solution-focused approach.
- Ability to support clients and families in a way that is culturally safe, responsive, and promotes equity, anti-oppression, anti-ableism, and anti- racism, including dismantling anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, paediatric rehabilitation principles and childhood development milestones.
- Knowledge of motor and cognitive development in the paediatric population including those with developmental or physical disabilities.
- Understanding of and ability to work within the scope of the role of OT/PT Assistant.
- Understanding of and commitment to a tiered service model of service delivery
- Excellent communication skills and proven ability to work as part of a team with professionals, other support staff and community agencies.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
- Creativity in preparation of treatment sessions and materials.
- Ability to provide services to clients in one-on-one or group situations is considered an asset.
- Ability to work hours that accommodate client/family schedules.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel across the service area.
- Implementing or assisting in individual or group treatment sessions.
- Assisting with environmental/equipment set-up for client sessions.
- Preparing materials/activities for use in assessment or treatment sessions.
- Assisting in set-up and delivery of caregiver workshops, groups or other, as required.
- Receiving, cataloguing and storing therapy equipment and material.
- Ensuring the cleaning and repair of therapy equipment and materials as per health and safety and infection control protocols.
- Recording daily work statistics in accordance with established procedures.
- Regular communication with supervising OT/PT regarding client progress.
- Documenting client progress in the client health record.
- Observing strict confidentiality regarding all client information.
- Maintaining a positive working relationship with all staff.
- Participating in quality improvement activities, as required.
- Other duties, as assigned.
- Approval to work from home will be at management's discretion and may change over time.
- Required Occasionally - lifting and carrying average weight 20 pounds and max 50, pushing/pulling average 10-15 pounds and max 30 pounds, patient assist approx. 100 pounds.
