Reporting to the Executive Dean, the Associate Dean will bring strong organizational, administrative, and academic leadership skills, joining a dynamic team dedicated to delivering innovative, market-driven programming. An exceptional communicator and skilled problem-solver, the successful candidate will provide leadership, guidance, and support to students, faculty, staff, and industry partners to foster success across all areas of the Faculty.The Associate Dean will embody Durham College's mission, vision, and values, demonstrating a collaborative and respectful leadership approach. Working closely with the Executive Dean, the Associate Dean will contribute to the development and execution of strategic priorities, support academic operations, and represent the Faculty both internally and externallyStrategic Leadership & Planning:
- Contribute to institutional planning and strategic initiatives aligned with the Academic Plan and Business Plan
- Support enrolment planning, forecasting, and budgeting activities
- Support enrolment growth strategies, including capacity optimization, scheduling efficiency, and resource planning
- Identify and implement solutions to address facility and scheduling constraints in high-demand programs
- Provide leadership in program development and renewal, including curriculum review, new program development, accreditation processes, and advisory committees
- Leverage the strengths of both apprenticeship and post-secondary delivery models to support integrated programming
- Champion innovation in program delivery, including the integration of emerging technologies, simulation, and applied learning approaches
- Promote innovative teaching and learning practices and support faculty development in collaboration with the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL)
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of the Ontario apprenticeship system and work effectively with government partners to meet regulatory requirements
- Ensure compliance with Ministry requirements related to apprenticeship delivery, including reporting, seat utilization, and funding agreements
- Support planning and execution of in-class apprenticeship training aligned with Ministry seat purchases and intake cycles
- Recruit, select, onboard, mentor, and support contract faculty
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of full-time faculty
- Actively support high-profile initiatives (e.g., Women in Skilled Trades) and participate in institutional committees and working groups
- Identify and plan for program resource needs, including specialized space, equipment, and facilities
- Support scheduling and timetable development
- Promote and ensure adherence to health and safety standards across labs, shops, and learning environments
- Support internal communications across the Faculty
- Oversee student academic advising within the Faculty
- Manage student conduct and disciplinary processes in accordance with College policies and collective agreements
- Participate in academic appeals processes
- Support initiatives that increase access and participation in skilled trades among underrepresented groups, including women, Indigenous learners, newcomers, and youth.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with industry, employers, government, school boards, and community partners
- Support the development and oversight of articulation agreements and academic partnerships
- Serve as a visible ambassador for the Faculty and the College at recruitment events and external engagements
- Master's degree in a relevant field and at least one credential aligned with programs offered in the Faculty of Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship
- Certificate of Qualification (C of Q) and Certificate of Apprenticeship (C of A) considered assets
- Minimum of seven (7) years of leadership experience in an academic environment
- Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in a college setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of skilled trades sectors and industry practices
- Demonstrated experience with apprenticeship training systems and skilled trades programming
- Relevant industry experience in skilled trades sectors is considered an asset
- Experience working with government agencies, regulatory bodies, or funded training programs is considered an asset
