- Lead specialized projects that improve team efficiency by collaborating closely with program leaders to provide advanced GIS tool support
- Meet with section managers and operational field staff to analyze their unique needs and define project goals, objectives, and deliverables
- Manage the entire lifecycle of projects, including the planning, design, and delivery of strategic initiatives while ensuring they remain on schedule and meet high-quality standards
- Create and source geospatial data from diverse sources like the City’s Enterprise GIS Portal and field surveys to integrate them into usable formats for the team
- Develop and manage business area databases, enforcing strict quality control to maintain the integrity of our geospatial information
- Use specialized software to perform spatial analysis, identifying patterns that help optimize the efficiency of our operational maintenance routes
- Provide peer-to-peer support and training to colleagues, helping end-users become self-sufficient with GIS applications and data interpretation
- A Diploma in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field where GIS was a core component of the program
- A minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience as a GIS Technician or Analyst, specifically performing data management, spatial analysis, and mapping. Including experience in managing projects and supporting program development
- Eligibility to be recognized as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) with ASET
- Navigate complex geoprocessing tools with ease, utilizing extensive knowledge of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise
- Translate complex technical requirements into clear maps, interfaces, and presentations for collaborators and interested parties
- Design and implement automated mapping workflows using scripts to ensure consistency and save time on recurring tasks
- Develop interactive dashboards and dynamic web maps that illustrate trends and patterns for both internal reference and public consumption
- Execute thorough quality assurance plans to identify and correct errors in datasets, ensuring total data integrity
- Demonstrate advanced problem-solving skills to troubleshoot data errors and develop logical workflows
- Prioritize heavy workloads and meet strict deadlines with precision while championing continuous improvement
- Foster a culture of collaboration and strategic thinking through strong facilitation and team-building skills
- Coordinate effectively with technical staff across various departments to improve city-wide data accuracy
- Knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) for managing large datasets
- Basic understanding of Python scripting, particularly the ArcPy library, for automating repetitive tasks
- Previous experience working within a municipal government environment
- Experience with FME for automation
- Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies (
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton’s safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel-toe boots
- Applicants may be tested
- Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time
- This role primarily works in an indoor setting with occasional outdoor work and site visits
- You may occasionally be exposed to extreme temperatures, precipitation, dust, or noise during field-related tasks
